330ml bottle 337 of 1481. Aroma: treacle, black cherries, slight alcohol. Pours dark brown, long soapy off-white head. Taste: Cherry notes, treacle, marmite(!), dark plain chocolate. Palate: Smooth, easy. Soft ’cloudy’ feel, gentle, slightly rubbery - in a nice way. Good smooth finish with a mild bitter burnt wood kick around the back of the tongue. Overall: Easy drinkability when you consider the abv. Easily the best offering from Black Isle.

Ottima davvero.

(Bottle) Pours near black with dark brown highlight. Creamy nougat coloured head. The aroma holds dark bread, grain, light flowers, grapefruit, port, dark chocolate, earth, dark fruits, meat, smooth wood, and touch of smoke. The flavour is light (to medium) sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with note of yummy malt, fresh hops and balanced fruity/spicy/mineral-ish undertones. The mouthfeel Is clean (in a good way), soft, round and light acidic with a light to medium carbonation. Roast caramel and friendly hops on the finish. Medium bodied.

330ml bottle (Bottle Shop, Canterbury) bottle 31/623
Lovely rich malty aroma, with a dry yeastiness. Looks glorious - very dark brown, and a persistent tight doughy tan head. Viscous, so the bubbles rise very sedately. Lovely in the mouth, so full and rich, but very pleasntly carbonated too to crispen it up and stop it being heavy. Yeasiness accompanies the heady sticky malts. Bready, toasty, some burnt edges of dundee cake, with just a little nuttiness and burnt raisins. Absolutely world class beer. There’s nothing grungy about the organic nature of this beer, if only other organics could be like this. Does feel heady and potent, but not alcoholic. Has the wow factor, every sip was glorious.

07/09/2012 Bir&Fud Bottega (330ml bottle). Bruna, riflessi mogano, schiuma biancastra abbondante e persistente.

Bottled, thanks to Jens. Brown with a small off-white head. Vineous fruity and rich malty aroma. Sweet malty and fruity flavour with a touch of caramel and a big vineous barley wine complexity.

33cL bottle from the brewery. Black Isle’s crown jewel (they told me they didn’t think they ought to sell it!). At $10 a bottle, it was expensive, but good. Mildly alcoholic aroma. Chocolatey notes, folds off the tongue, equal parts, malt, bitterness, and alcohol. Really really good.

Unclear medium to dark brown colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, light hoppy. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, caramel, prune, brown licorice candy, english licorice notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120423]

Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, small head. Resinous grapefruity hops covers a solid, sticky, malty body with deep layers of caramel. Mild warming alcohol stays in the background. Long resiny bitterness. An intense rainy days beer.

Bottle 332 from utobeer. It pours very dark brown, decent beige head. The nose is caramel, raisin, prune, plum, coffee/roasted malt and some beef jerky. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, plum, prune, blackcurrant, cherry, bubble-gum, some meatiness, varnish, charcoal, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Well balanced and flavoursome. Great stuff.
