3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BBB63 (5023) - La Porte, USA - AUG 2, 2007
MiBGF 07: Deep brown with a creamy beige head. The aroma has notes of toasty and roasted malts, some walnut and chocolate, earthy esters and a hint of grassy hops. Clean bitterness greets the taster with coffee and hops before a shot of sweet milk chocolate comes to play. The finish is short and mostly clean, not what I expected from a sweet stout. While the mouth feel is nice and smooth, it is a tad too thin for a beer with oatmeal. A good brew, I would like to see more from this brewery.

On tap at the brewpub...thin, watery black beer. The only hints of hints of coffee and chocolate were in the description. Not good.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 papsdatank (47) - Michigan, USA - JUL 27, 2011
Pours an extremely dark brown with a tan head, looks pretty good. Smells of roasty malts, bitter chocolate and coffee pretty good but a little restrained. Taste follows the nose, it seems like it could be better again feels a bit restrained. The palate isn’t what I expected, it’s a little thin and watery, they really need to make this thicker, all in all it’s decent, but go with the imperial stout, they really went all out on that one.

Sample at the brewpub on 7/23/11. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Roasty aroma to the point of char with some light chocolate notes as well. Roasted malt flavor with chocolate and a burnt coffee finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a thick, foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted, smoked, and charred malt with some parmesean cheese. Flavor of chalky bitter chocolate and a weak malt base. A decent stout but nothing special.

thin, watery, no bite, no flavor. this was the worst beer they had, and i’m a HUGE fan of stouts. just crap.

Draft pint at the brewpub. Another thin, sudsy head. Nice smoky aroma on this one makes me want to dive in. The beer delivers a robust, roasty, fireside flavor with a fun bitter finish. Only downside on this is that it’s a bit on the thin side. (#3821, 1/26/2010)

Black pour with a small, lasting, loose, tan head. Lots of roast in the aroma with notes of cocoa, roasted peanuts, and a little milk chocolate. Sweet rolled oat, peanut, and milk chocolate with just a hint of cofee and cream. Medium-full, creamy, body with soft carbonation.
2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MereLikesBeer (195) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - JUL 15, 2009
I got this at the brewpub, while sharing a meal with BeerBaron617. Typically I won’t order a stout, simply because they aren’t really my cup of tea, however it was an oatmeal stout, and those I do enjoy. I wasn’t too disappointed with this one. It’s aroma was subtle, roasty chocolate notes. It had a very light mouthfeel, however the taste was pretty decent - light and somewhat refreshing. Sort of weird as far as a stout is concerned.

Had a few sips of this with MereLikesBeer at the brewpub. This was a lot better than the IPA that I had. It was roasty and had a nice chocolate note. Very light, but overall not bad. I would go back for this, and the food was pretty good too. Cheers!
