1945 Berliner Weisse Berliner Weisse is a very pale, sour, refreshing, low-alcohol wheat ale, and regional specialty of Berlin. Berliner Weisse was referred to by Napoleon’s troops in 1809 as "the Champagne of the North" due to its lively and elegant character. Enjoy the tart, refreshing flavor by itself, or try a more traditional German approach by mixing with a shot raspberry, woodruff, or other flavored syrup.

Pours an opaque yellow color with a fruity aroma. Taste is bubbly and champagne like with a melon flavor. A very easy drinking beer with little to no bitterness and a quickly disappearing aftertaste. The tart taste is very evident at first and then disappears to a cool refreshing beer.

22oz bomber pours with a nearly clear copper to gold body that supports a weak off white head. The mild aroma offers up wheat, lemon, lime tartness and then a mild sort of funky sort of sourness. The taste starts with a balanced mix of lemon and lime tartness and sort of wheat that is faintly malt sweetened. This is light and refreshing but could be less tart and more sour and funky for my taste.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Firestone glass From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $3.99 Purchased: Aug. 20, 2014 Consumed: Aug. 22, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a golden straw color with 4-to-5 fingers of rocky white head. Small, selected streams of bubbles coming up from the bottom. Minimal lacing along the sides of the glass. Minimal retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.50) Smelled sour fruit, green apple, kiwi, green grapes, Sweet Tarts, sugary wheat and candied sugar. Very enticing. (Smell - 4.11) Taste didn’t match the nose, but still decent. Got green apple, green grapes, kiwi, sour grass, wheat, sour fruit and candied tarts. (Taste - 3.75) Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, sour finish. (Feel - 3.69) An OK Berliner Weissbier, but not my favorite (without looking how many I’ve had). (Overall - 3.73) 3.80 86 B+

On tap at Elizabeth Station, pours a cloudy blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of lemons, tart fruit, and a touch of sweetness. Flavour is extremely well-structured, with lots of tart lemons, wheat and a little funk. Now this is how you do a good Berliner. Excellent stuff.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a moderate off white head on it. Nose is slightly wheaty with a fair amount of sour funk to it. Taste is fairly sour with a nice crispness to it which surprised me. Lighter than expected, too.

22oz bomber ($6) into Free State globe/tulip glass. Pours loudly, small but fizzy champagne like head that quickly fades as champagne would, nice touch. Pale yellow color. Aroma is light with lemony accents an generally clean. No husk, no wheatiness, generally just lemony. The aroma is nice but the flavor takes off with a cool strong lemon character with lots of very tartness and clean citric character tingles at the end of the flavor. Very sparking an effervescent on the cheeks. Very lively at tart with a backing of straightforward neutral malts playing the glue to the rest of the beer. Long lemon aftertastes. Not too much for me, just right. Enjoyed the whole bomber myself and can’ wait to buy more.
