1945 Berliner Weisse Berliner Weisse is a very pale, sour, refreshing, low-alcohol wheat ale, and regional specialty of Berlin. Berliner Weisse was referred to by Napoleon’s troops in 1809 as "the Champagne of the North" due to its lively and elegant character. Enjoy the tart, refreshing flavor by itself, or try a more traditional German approach by mixing with a shot raspberry, woodruff, or other flavored syrup.

Bottle, thanks Brian! Pours quite hazy orange, small off white head, some lacing. Aroma is dusty, lemon, wheat, , light peach. Flavor is light plus tart, some residual sweetness, hint of funk, lemon and stone fruit. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is mild lemon, olives. Taste is briny, olives, lemon peel, dry wood finish. Very pleasant (and for me a much needed break from the richer christmas beers I’ve been drinking).

Bottle (22 oz). Split 2-ways by JulienHuxley, thanks! Clear golden with medium quickly fading white head leaving little to no lacing. Aroma is of sweat, small feet, plums, rubber and nothing very enticing. Taste is as bad with tons of sweat and small feet, moderate acidity, some sweetness, plums and rubber. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Sweaty finish. drain pour.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2016 Great acidity, great malt balance. Aroma was pleasant and not overwhelming. Mixed with some home made syrups I made as well and held up to my favorite German-made Berlinerweisses. Great example of the style!

Bottle pours hazy yellow gold with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is relatively tame with notes of lemon grass, dusty wheat, and a strange sourness that I can’t quite put my finger on. Flavor shows lemon warheads, unripe green grapes, green apple skins, and cracker malt. The more I drink, the sour almost seems artificial (tartaric acid??) rather than a product of lacto. Overall body is light to moderate and the finish is dry.
