COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
1945 Berliner Weisse Berliner Weisse is a very pale, sour, refreshing, low-alcohol wheat ale, and regional specialty of Berlin. Berliner Weisse was referred to by Napoleon’s troops in 1809 as "the Champagne of the North" due to its lively and elegant character. Enjoy the tart, refreshing flavor by itself, or try a more traditional German approach by mixing with a shot raspberry, woodruff, or other flavored syrup.

Anticipated this 22oz bomber so shared with kmweaver (local bottle shop who rarely steers me wrong gave high marks). Highly acedic sourness dominated this cloudy pour. Tart aroma and nose, with some hoisin sauce. That said, it’s still one dimensional, not subtle. Mouthfeel was slightly oily, with perception of low carbonation. Call it a sour, but not what I expect in something labeled Berliner Weiss style.

Aroma is champagne, tart, clove, and honey. Taste is swet malts, soured grapes, apple, pears and light earthiness. Light grainy bitterness on the tip. Appearance is a thin pearl head that retains somewhat poorly. Body is a clear gold.

Yeasty aroma and flavor, with light refreshing body, some mild tartness and a little wheat. Nothing exciting, but not too shabby.

Sample at Brave Horse Tavern. Hazy pale yellow color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of lemons, wheat and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of tart citrus, herbal wheat and pale malts. The finish is mildly tart with a lemony aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is mild lemon, olives. Taste is briny, olives, lemon peel, dry wood finish. Very pleasant (and for me a much needed break from the richer christmas beers I’ve been drinking).
