Because of the gravitational pull of Black Hole Sun, no light can escape. This super high gravity Russian Imperial Stout is brewed with 100% barley and zero added sugar. Black Hole Sun will make a fine evening companion. Let it warm a bit to enjoy its entire magnitude of flavor complexities.

Bottle. Pours a thick and near black color with a moderate darker brown color head on there. Nose is definitely roasty with a bit of licorice and coffee in there. Taste is thick and complex, a bit sweet up front with some sour and licorice notes you expect in a RIS. OK.

Bottle split at Bruce’s farewell drinks, thanks to LKS, 15/04/15. Pitch black with a well appointed dirty tan head. Nose is rich roast, spice, bitter berry, charr, chocolate. Taste comprises liquid Xmas cake, rich malt base, molasses, dark chocolate. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Ok impy but not overly approachable, just a little too hot, that said it drinks below the ABV.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s farewell drinks. Many thanks to Leighton. Opaque black viscous pour with a lasting dark tam head. Aroma is huge dark nutty roast, creme caramel, vanilla, bit of booze and dried fruits. Flavour is big rounded roasty, marshmallow, dried fruits, vanilla, creamy. Palate is full sticky, velvety, creamy. Superb beer. Very big beer, but remains pretty smooth.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours jet black with a decent tan head. The nose is sweet roast, lots of dark fruits, light an, jam and mild acidity. The taste is bitter-sweet, rich roast, pretty sweet actually, plenty of dark fruits, tangy, acidic, blackcurrant, burnt roast and light alcohol with a dry, tangy finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Not sure on this one.

22oz bomber from www.craftbeerkings.com. Poured a damn nice looking pitch black body under a super dense super dark brown head. Aroma is sweet, loads of chocolate, tobacco, soy sauce, black olives, cola, brown sugar. Meeium body, syrupy mouthfeel, and average carbonation with a lingering sweet aftertaste. Flavor of sweet melted chocolate and melted burmt caramel, dark burnt malted wort, sugar, molasses. Meh this is just far too sweet, wish it was more burnt and roasty.

Tap at The Pine Box, Seattle a few nights ago. $9 for a 6oz pour and totally worth it. Beautiful red tones in the lacing of black. Great example of an excessively ABV’d Impy Stout right here. Hints of booze, roast, dark cocoa, and soy on the nose. Flavors are super sweet dark malts and fruits to start off before diving into a roasty coffee booze bomb with soy on top at the end. Damn good. Watch out for this one though, it’s a CREEPER!

primo balsamic, figgy, sweet molasses, roast and dark chocolate on the aftertaste, good carbonation vs density and pleasantly thick-ish mouthfeel
