Black color with frothy large brownish head. Aroma of whiskey, cocoa, chocolate, caramel, comforting. Highly carbonated, caramel flavor, chocolate, light vanilla, a bit vinous.
Very good.

22 oz. bottle, pours dark brown with a humungous beige head that doesn’t seem intentional. Nose brings out burnt smoky notes, burnt roast, vanilla, and some cocoa. Flavour is interesting, with lots of smoked whiskey, alcohol, and cocoa. Quite burnt and alcoholic. Not the most elegant beer, but it’s not a disaster. Finishes smoky, alcoholic, and burnt. Decent, but seems off a bit.

Botle:   Dark brown, cola hued, foamed out of the bottle, spotty lacing.   Soft whiskey nose, some graham cracker, touch of light cocoa, even coconut.   Almost like a chocolate licorice up front, airy, very airy.   Its like its infected but not completely busted yet.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, and you guessed it, airy.   A little astringent on the backside.   Has a dark pitted fruit like soy background.   Could be something, but its too astringent and airy.

Whiskey imperial brown...pretty barrel prevalant, but that’s not always a bad thing. Hops still come through a little, and the feel is fizzy but smooth. A little heat. The cocoa and vanilla are well in the background. Nice brew.

Foiled 22oz bomber opened and then slowly foamed and foamed with kind of that endless foam thing going on so having a sink nearby was handy. It poured up with a murky dark mahogany colored body that supports a tall semi loose tan head. The aroma offers up sweet thick malts, molasses and then lesser amounts of sweet vanilla, bourbon and booze. The taste starts with sweet malts and a thin molasses kick and then it picks up notes of vanilla, mild oak spiciness, some bourbon and booze. Into the finish the spicy oak grows and briefly takes over the flavor. This had a bad start with all the foaming but in the end I enjoyed this sipper’s flavor balance.

On tap at the Barrel Republic. Allowed to warm in a snifter for about 15 minutes. This is an imperial, barrel-aged version of Shakedown Brown. Appearance: Dark red-brown with a very durable tan head that leaves a temporary coat of lacing. Aroma: Booxy (bourbon) and fruity with suggestions of dark fruits and faint spicing. Flavor: sweet up front but this is largely countered by some bitter and tart aspects by the finish. good complexity. Wood and bourbon add to, but do not mask, the rich medium and dark malt base. Feel: Medium+ body with good soft carbonation. O: A tasty beer worth seeking out.

22oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Vanilla, bourbon, oak, very sweet, alcohol not well hidden. Did not taste as good as it looked. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This very beautiful black colored beer has a thick creamy oatmeal colored head. It has a bourbony aroma. That bourbon hits upfront then mellows to a more typical brown flavor where the cocoa and vanilla come through strongly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

>> Pours clear dark amber, sepia. Weak foam. Taste is odd, malty, ashy, harsh coffee. Nose is nice bourbon, yellow cake, rum cake, mild savory, soy, maple. Lots of bitter coffee. Harsh soapy palate, strange.

Not as elegant as labeled. Dark mahogany pour with a khaki foam. Quite sweet with sugary raisins, chalky cocoa powder, and artificial vanilla extract. Whisky flavors are subtle but the alcohol burn is noticeable. Meh.
