Bavarian Style Wheat Ale
A refreshing, unfiltered wheat beer that showcases the unique, but subtle, fruit and spice character from the classical southern German yeast strain we use. In the spirit of the German purity law, this beer is brewed using only malt, hops, yeast and water. Please enjoy this beer WITHOUT a fruit garnish, as it is brewed specifically to rely its own beautiful balance of flavors.
Hops: Czech Saaz
Malt: Wheat, Pilsner

Cloudy gold color with a modest head and ok lace. Aromas of bananas, clove, wheat. Bready sweetness with a mild hop note. Light body, effervescent, prickly mouthfeel and a dry finish.

Eschewing the local house beers at Stone I opened a flight with a sample of this passable hefeweizen. Parked squarely in the middle of the spectrum it is neither a banana bomb nor a malty bread dough experience. Instead it maintains aspects of both.

Aroma / Appearance - A yellow golden base has a nice warmth to it that pairs well with the clean crisp head. Bread dough, yeast, lemons, and other citrus flavors ground it effectively. Lacking the fruity bite of some hefeweizens it instead favors a more balanced approach.

Flavor / Palate - A malty sweetness soon coats the palate with a mixture of lemons and three day old bananas on the verge of spoiling. Cascades of wheat build on this before a chewy finish that sticks to the palate. For a session beer it is effective although I think that I would go in favor of other examples instead if I had a crazing for a wheat beer on a warm summer evening.

Poured from a can. Hazy pale gold. Little head or lacing. Typical wheat beer smell and taste. Not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This Hefe just hits home with me. That European style with flavors of clove and banana is just so much better then the orangey flavor like in Blue Moon (personal preference). The finish and aftertaste is great too, hangs on the palate for just the right amount of time.

Thanks to 5000 for sending me this can. Hazy golden pour with a white head. The aroma has some heavy wheat notes as well as a hint of bubblegum. The flavor is more of the same. The sweet wheat notes are complemented by some bubblegum and a bit of clove. I don’t really get much banana character. Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice hefeweizen.

Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours cloudy yellow with a creamy topping. Extremely basic, even for a hefe. Some lemon, mellow wheat, faint yeasty dough. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Tasty enough but very simplistic.

Bottle:   Thick dirty straw, soft sudsy white head, little lacing.   Wheaty nose, faint straw and hay.   Has only a smidgen of banana and clove.   Big wheatiness on the tongue, smooth, moreso American like in that by the time it hits the tongue I am not really getting any clove or banana.   Smooth on the tongue, but missing some of the components for a German Hefe.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Feels pretty good, and isn’t overly carbonated.   Finishes with soft straw/hay, somewhat sweet, and very much like an American Wheat.   Better than most American examples, but not quite up to par for being German.   Still enjoyable tho.

Good flavor. Notes of banana, clove, and bubblegum. Light yeasty flavor. Refreshing but slightly watery.
