Bottle from Total Wine Huntington Beach. No clue on how long it’s been sitting on those shelves, but based on the other bottles I bought probably mid-2012. Anyhoo, this pours a beautiful hazy golden amber. Not as big of a head as I like, but it’s foamy and off-white. Nose is sweet and wheaty, but a bit subdued. Not the in-your-face bubblegum and banana that some hefes are. Some mineral, white grape, pear, and subtle clove spicing. Taste is the same, with the sweet fruity wheat transitioning into canned pear and lightly spicy clove. Mineral throughout. Again, not much in the way of banana or bubblegum. Big thick body with ample smooth carbonation. Solid all around, but I like a little more pungency in my hefes.
