As its namesake suggests, Quadrophenia is a Belgian style quadruple ale. We ferment Quadrophenia using Trappist ale yeast, which produces the spicy, phenolic flavors sometimes mistaken for added spices. The unique characteristics of caramel donít come from the Pale and Munich malts, but from the introduction of Coconut Palm Sugar used in the brewing process.

clear red brown pour big tan head. Aroma of malt bomb, raisins, corriander. Tastes planty tomatoes, candi sugar, malt liquor. This is like a trippel with some heavier malting. Way too light on the palate. Booze doesnít hide very well here, though it doesnít quite taste 11%. Okay brew, but really out of style.

Very good to great quad. Reddish brownish pour pretty clear. Candi like aroma with some caramel and toffee. Some banana but very slight. Flavor had dark fruits of plum and raisins with the candi sugar adding compkxity.

Not much head amber coloured pour mild to medium carbonation aromas brown sugar caramel citrus toffee yeast richness spice bread caramel the flavours spice yeast richness no doubt bread caramel brown sugar candy note toffee citrus good for the style rigid in taste gives it something like the sweetness the finish best notes spice sweetness good malt notes bread sour bitter touch good for the style

Aromas of tropical fruits, orange, pineapple,coconut juice, papaya, tangerine, ripe apricot, coconut, burnt sugar, burnt caramel, tart apple juice and tangy, ester-like yeast. Appears a clouded golden copper with assertive lacing. Taste is big candied caramel, sweet sugar, sugared tropical fruits, prunes, apricots,coconut juice tangerine, pineapple, guava juice, orange peel and papaya. More subtle notes of chewy malt syrup, more caramel, turbinado sugar, biscuit malt and ester-like yeast. Overall, very interesting beer with a lot of fruity flavors. A tad overly sweet for me but still a great brew. A rating.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2016 February 9th, 2014 - Smell is very sweet. Lots of honey, roasted apple, bubble gum and graham cracker. Taste is also very very sweet. Like, really sweet. Too sweet. Palate is normal, kind of bubbly on the back end. Aftertaste is all the sticky sweetness. Lots of the caramel and graham cracker, and a slight hoppiness, but that yeast is really pushing the sugars. July 24th, 2013 - Black Market Brewingís Quadao-Phenia is a sledgehammer to the nose, blasting the olfactory with aromas that boldly reek of balsamic vinegar and fig, followed by parmesan cheese and marinated cepollini onions, and a touch of grape sweetness, all swimming around in a heady bouquet. The scent is practically a drug, layering umami after umami into a wonderful lattice of savory-sweet bliss. The flavor is the same, but where the nose was acceptably titanic, the flavor is awkwardly monstrous. It resembles balsamic vinegar here too, though is swirled with dark chocolate and topped with tons of fig. The combination exudes a taste like barbecue, and the vinegar brightness of those marinated cepollinis. Even in its excessive strength I like it, finding myself restrained and giving plenty of of time between oil, slick sips. This is a heavyweight brew, but if youíre a fan of powerful flavors and steel-toed aggressiveness in your brews, give this a go. 9/3/7/4/15 3.8

Sample at the Aces & Ales Winter Beer Fest on 01/16/2015. Pours a clear dark copper color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast and malt. Medium to full-bodied with flavors of raising, caramel malt, and earthy yeast. The finish is sweet with a fruity yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

22oz bottle - Aroma - tons of dark fruit, bananas, toasted bread, and caramel. Appearance - reddish copper body, clear, light body carbonation, 3-finger head, low retention/lacing Flavor - belgian candi sugars, bread, raisins, light toffee and every now and then I get a banana flavor profile. Overall - Iíve never heard of Black Market before and this was a nice beer. Not overpriced and it delivers a solid product.

650ml bottle. Pours a fairly clear ruby amber, with a smallish off-white head, which lasts reasonably well but does not leave much lacing. Floral hops, spicy Belgian yeast and lightly sweet palm sugar make up the aroma. Light floral and spice hops up front give way to spicy yeast and sweet palm sugar in the mid-palate. Burnt sugar and spice come through in the finish. This is OK, but unremarkable, and I donít think that the palm sugar really helps its case.

Jagged little brew here, quite rough around the edges. Bready, biscuity, yeasty with some dark fruit, almost a spicy rye, and indistinguishable dark fruit. Fairly hot, with the alcohol distracting from the enjoyment. Meh.

Botle:   Uh oh, may not be able to finish this one, and Iíve been poured only half the bottle.   Sweet, very bready, cloying, with a slight sweet vegetable tinge.   A bit odd.   Not really dark pitted fruit, caramel, or toffee.   Despite being cloying, body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Sweet finish, very sweet.   Has a thick spiciness to it thatís not bright, but heavy.   Otherwise extremely bready and sweet.   A bit difficult, but I finished my glass.   A whole bottle would be tough tho.
