COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A golden/amber beer that showcases bold American hops with the extra flavor dimension of the use of rye malt as 20% of the malt bill. This is a shockingly balanced IPA, in the sense that we include just enough malt character to counter the otherwise intense bitterness typically found in an American IPA, making for an immensely pleasant experience for your palate.
Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, Columbus
Malt: Pale, Rye, Crystal

Pours clear to slightly hazy pale amber with two fingers of ivory head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, good lacing. (3/5) Nose is bright citrus and tropical fruit, pale malt, pine resin, mild rye. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter, light sour. (7/10) Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (4/5) Quite a pleasant rye IPA - very well-balanced, both in terms of the hop bittering and the pale malt, but also in the contribution of the sour rye. Iíve found that rye IPAs can sometimes be a bit aggressive in the rye notes - which isnít necessarily a negative - but itís interesting to have one thatís a bit more even-handed in its approach. I have to say, Iím liking this brewery - solid products, if not quite stellar. (15/20)

Bottle into IPA glass. Pours a clear copper gold color with white head. Aroma is citrusy with a touch of over ripe tropical fruits. Taste is citrus, stone fruit with a subtle rye spiciness. Great beer.

650ml brown bottle. Deep golden, a little haze. White head, good creaminess and good looking lacing. Nose has citrus and a bit of tropical fruit. Taste has big grapefruit and rye grains. Grapefruity finish, long bitterness. Pleasant, could have used a bit more rye though.

Very enjoyable. Pours a bright golden orange with a thin off white head. The aroma is playful, spicy and citrus based with heavy hop notes, light grapefruit and pine resin aromas. Sweet rye notes, bready and grainy malts, light grassy hops, grapefruit, lemon, pine needles. Full body with a spicy, crisp rye profile. Moderate to heavy bitterness with light lingerance. A great RYEPA overall.

Draft. Hazy orange color. Sweet nectar on the nose (the crystal malts?). Soapy lace. Flavors are sweeter than most RyePAs, perhaps because only 20% of the malts are rye. Super-easy drinker.

Thanks FosterJim. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a hazy orange color with a dissipating slim fingered white foamy head. Lacing slides into the beer. The smell has an eloquent citrus to sly aromatic rye malt, slightly spicy, slightly sweet, blended well. The taste combined a sweet citrus to spicy rye to lightly sweet rye. It leaves a gentle sweet rye aftertaste with a slight dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sesionability about it. The carbonation is there, appropriate for the style and for me. Decent harshness of an IPA hits appropriately on my tongue. Overall, I say this does everything itís supposed to. Good job, Black Market, Iíd be willing to try more of your offerings.

12oz can. Thick, full, and tasty - all while definitely being balanced. This is one Iíd love to be able to score a 6er of on a regular basis!

Light Amber. Nice rye spicy nose with some fruitiness. The mouth isnít spectacular, and lacks balance. Moderate bitterness with some rye slickness but lacks balance though still not balanced.

Type: 12-oz. can Glass: Modern Times pint glass From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif. Price: $1.89 Purchased: Dec. 9, 2014 Consumed: Dec. 11, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a caramel, orange, amber, semi-clear color with four fingers of frothy, white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass to the top. Evened, layered, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Thick retention all the way down. (Sight - 4.13) Smelled a pleasant whiff of hops up front. Got floral, Centennial, Citra, rye and Cascade. Light grapefruit, lime zest, pineapple, caramel, tropical and tangerine wheat. (Smell - 4.13) Tasted earthy rye hops, caramel, metallic notes, light bitter grapefruit, lime zest, pine, Cascade hops, boozy rubbing alcohol and faint floral hops. (Taste - 3.50) Medium body. Thin texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish. (Feel - 3.38) This beer was OK for a rye beer, but nothing extraordinary. I had high hopes after the look and smell, but it disappointed from there. (Overall - 3.50) 3.65 83 B
