Pours a light orange with a yellow hue. Aroma is of pine needles mixed with floral notes. Taste is mild for an IPA, slight bitterness throughout which dissipates in the aftertaste. A slight grassy taste as well. Overall a good IPA just on the milder side.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 p1meatloaf (208) - California, USA - SEP 29, 2011
In taster at Quaff meeting. Smells definite hops and spice. Looks light apricot. Tastes rye and light spiced good bitterness. The brewer was at the meeting and he talked about how the hop selections were meant to emulate Amarillo hops with none of that actual type due to a shortage of those hops because of the big brewers buying it all up. Overall 8 of 10. Fun twist on the talents of socal ipas with the rye.

draft at Beer Revolution... murky medium peach with some gold... good ipa worth trying, don’t get much of the rye though

Tap @ Local Habit. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Big grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and earth flavor with light spice. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and light earth lingers with light pine. Big rye mouthfeel - a bit too much.

On tap at Brewery. Pours a nice mid amber with a firm head. Notes of slight hops show with a nice mouthfeel that drives the hops and the deep note of grain (rye) that belnds quite nicely.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BeerLimey (2135) - California, USA - MAY 22, 2011
Deliciously smooth IPA. Slightly cloudy, orangey amber hue, good head retention.Well spiced, floral hoppy nose. Caramel malt provides a smooth medium bodied palate, while the rye just gives it a hint of lingering aniseed. Plenty of hops and citrussy bite in the finish. This is an incredibly well balanced IPA with the malt and hops playing perfectly togther. It just manages to pack plenty of hop bitterness into a smooth body.

My favorite of the beers I sampled at their tasting room. Sweet malt backbone is accentuated by the rye spiciness. Really clever flavor profile nestled under some huge citrus hop notes. Great beer, and I can see why it was awarded a medal.
