3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jerc (5580) - Toronto, - SEP 23, 2011
2011-09-23. Crisp mahogany brown body witha small off-white head. 3+ Flavour is quite grainy, not sure how I like how the two beers have combined here. Nutty brown ale character of the Nut Brown is diminished a bit much. Aroma is lightly nutty, with sort of a chestnut like character. Average plus bodied palate. Okay but not to my taste, I’d rather just have a Nut Brown. On tap at Black Oak Tap Takeover, Volo

[3981-20110922] Tap. Odd cooked creamed corn aroma. Clear, amber orange body with a quick foamy off-white head. Cardboardy grains flavour continues with some creamed corn notes. Medium body has a little bitterness. Average. (6/3/6/3/12) 3.0

On tap at C’est What 24 Hours of Beer. Pours a clear orange with decent-sized slightly off-white head. Aroma is fruity and grainy. Flavour has grains, caramel and some fruitiness. Fine carbonation. Not much brown ale character to my mind.

Draught at "Black Oak Tap Takeover" at Volo. Pours a deep orange-amber with a small diminishing white head. Mild and somewhat dull aroma of caramel malt. Flavour’s fruity and grainy along with caramel malt and just a hint of hops. Average bodied. Mediocre, I didn’t much care for it.

Cask at C’est What. Pale amber pour (this is no brown ale). Soft earthy hop nose with a touch of bitterness. A little bit dirty with a touch of estery character. Earthy and slightly toasty. Pale malt is the most obvious note. Meh - nothing to see here
