A dark reddish brown ale with a thin dark off white head. In aroma, a smooth fruity biscuit malt with floral and pungent hops, orange pulp and dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth roasted malt with piney hops, white grapefruits, nice and smooth. On tap at Session 99, June 23, 2012.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 solidfunk (1790) - Ontario, CANADA - JUN 29, 2012
Smells like mild hops, a little bitterness. Looks kind of ruby black with some lacing. No fruit, no citrus, no nothing. Just bitter. Not sure where the abbey comes into this. It’s just a low to average American IPA. Not even much roast that you would expect in a BIPA. On tap at barVolo.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2012 2012-06-20. Very dark brown-black body with a nice foamy tan head. 3+ Flavour has lots of green leafy hops up front, sort of earthy character towards the middle. Sweetish malt core, mild bitterness and leafy green hops linger into the finish and aftertaste. 6+ Aroma of modest leafy green hops, mild sweet dark malt. Average bodied palate. It is a pretty decent take on the style, but for my own tastes I’d like to see a different hop profile - not so green and leafy. That said, I think I might like this a bit more on a different day. On tap at ’Ken’s Still Bitter’ Event, Black Oak Brewing, Toronto.
