[3980-20110922] Tap. Mocha coffee toffee toast aroma. Black body with a quick foamy brown head. Thick roasted malt flavour has lots of sweet toffee coffee cream undertones. Full body. Nice roast grains characteristics. (7/3/7/3/13) 3.3

[20110916] Cask. A bit of an absinthe toffee malt crackle aroma with coffee chocolate coffee notes. Black body with a quick foamy tan head. Chocolate roasted malt flavour. Full body is rich and thick. Tasty but would be interested to see it again after some aging. (8/3/7/4/15) 3.7

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 blankboy (4437) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 26, 2011
Draught at "Black Oak Tap Takeover" at Volo. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a spare diminishing tan head -- slightly oily looking. Lovely aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cream, chocolate and light leafy hops. Flavour of coffee first followed by roasted malt, cream and chocolate -- totally delicious! Alcohol’s totally hidden. Medium bodied. A fantastic Stout!

Interesting but a little disapointing. Big vanilla coffee aromas, but is it real or artificial? Thick lace.Above average mouthfeel. Brandy barrel would have added welcome complexity. This was just a flavoured coffee mix with some beer. Good for what that is.So-so drinkability.

2011-09-23. Black body with a nice tan head. First sip has a sweet moch character, gives way to a strong coffee character. 6+ Very dry bitter coffee finish. Strong coffee-mocha aroma, sweet dark malt. Average bodied palate, suitably carbonated. Pretty solid beer, interest and well made but the strong coffee character is not to my own tastes. 7/4/6/3/14 On tap at Black Oak Tap Takeover, Volo
2011-09-16. Black body with a nice tan head. 3+ Aroma of mild alcohol, bit of wood, coffee/cocoa? Sweet with a kiss of vanilla. 7+ Flavour is fairly sweet, notes of roasty bitterness, lingering dry cocoa notes, hints of dusty malt touches. 7+ Smooth medium plus bodied palate, flat. 3+ Pretty solid, bit heavy but rather tasty. QUite different from the Cafe au Lait sampled at Volo, the coffee is milder and more to my liking. 8/4/8/3/16 Wooden Cask with brandy treatment, Barrel Bragging Rights #6 Josh Rubin, Monk’s Table, Toronto
