3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2007 On tap @ Volo, Toronto
2007 Version , fresh cask. Pours brown with good top.
Felt much richer than old 06 version . Plenty of chocolate, roasted malts less so cherry.
Old: Sweet brown malts dominate this scene, hint of euro continental hops behind.
Full , matured dark ale. Good , full bodied . For Starbucks lovers think of Raspberry Mocha but with cherry accents. Great improvement vs. batch one. Good brew.
Clean slightly vinous . Pleasant, neat woody bitter touches. Late fruit finish. Brewmasters excellence and detail oriented techniques are well shown. Almost perfect as dunkel goes just a bit boring / mainstream .

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 Bottle (341ml) I believe I am indebted to jerc for this one - thank you!. Pours motor-oil dark (good start!), thin, bubbly mocha head, some lacing. Aroma of espresso, burnt malt, dark chocolate, a little hop bitterness and light cherry hovering. Very full-bodied, creamy and oily in the mouth, a metallic tang on the taster, quite bitter, but still that 80% cocoa flavour, coffee, and a vague hint of cherry. Strong - alcohol grabs you on the linger. Apart from that metallic tang, a lovely stout and Iíll beg for more next time around. Wassail!

On tap at the Toronto Beerlicious fest.
Deep black, with a light cherry flavor, medium sweetness, and chocolate. Very mild in flavor for a stout--light bitterness. Nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours black with an average size light brown frothy head. With a bit more head I would have given it a 5 for appearance. Aroma of chocolate, espresso, roasted malts and, of course, cherry. Smells delightful. Flavour is roasted coffee, chocolate, a touch of cherry and a nice amount of hops. Thankfully itís all very well balanced and itís not too sweet. This is a very good stout, kudos to Black Oak.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2008 Matt7215 hooked my up with this beer. Pours black with a medium beige head. The aroma is mostly coffee and light malts. The taste was really quite nice; smooth roasted malts, rich coffee and chocolate, vanilla, and light cherries. A very nice and smooth body, sweet finish. Very enjoyable.

Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with a tan head. Dry and roast y body upfront then relaxes with chocolate sweetness, light minerals and a hint of sweet fudge. Cherries are pretty subdued with just a hint of fruit sweetenss and a light drying body. Pretty good.

[439-20070725] 355mL (c/o tuqueboy, w/ him, jerc). Super chocolate malt aroma. Clear dark black brown body with a long-lasting creamy tan head. Malt flavour is lightly sour or tart with some chocolate and cherry notes. Full body is a little watery. Annoying initial sourness fades nicely.

Bottle, thanks to Oakes. Dark black-brown-red with aromas of Black Forest Cake. Soft body, nice cakey flavors. Good stuff, they either nailed it or named it well.
