3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 herrbrown1974 (98) - Toronto, CANADA - DEC 1, 2011
On cask at bar volo. Cloudy orange pour. Mild aroma of pine, naval orange, honey, cinnamon. Slick mouthfeel, medium body. Initially very mild. Sweet and light vanilla maltiness gives way to bitter, slightly sour finish of orange and grapefruit. Not a hop "bomb", but a good, unique brew. Would be very nice in summer.

Cask at C’est What. Very hazy orange pour with a tight white head. The aroma is quite odd. Soft orange peel in addition to a fairly light fishy sort of vegetal character. A touch of DMS as well. A little bit of light fruit and some fairly light fruity esters. It’s got a little bit of sweetness through the middle. Not really malty though - the sweet slickness seems like a fermentation or a conditioning issue. Moderate bitterness on the finish - although that Harare is actually fairly clean. Odd.

On tap at c’est what. Poured hazy amber with little to no head. Hardly any carbonation. All the ingredients were there but tasted flat and watered down

Cask at Gambrinus Bistro and Cafe. Just slightly hazed straw colour, with a creamy cap about an inch thick. Fresh hoppy nose has lots of citrus, an herbal quality, some perfume/candy like malts. The flavour is subdued with mild pithy bitterness and just a touch of malt sweetness. Very creamy, on the lighter side of medium bodied, a mild lingering bitterness. The name is a bit of a misnomer as this certainly is not a hop bomb, but its a good beer.

Sample at Volo IPA Challenge. Pours a hazy golden with faint ring of whaite head. Aroma is full on citrus hops, grapefruit for sure. Flavour is pleasingly hoppy, enough malt to back it, but predominantly sharp hops. It lingers well but the body is a tad thin. Very solid.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Spab (1118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 26, 2010
Cask at Volo. Pours a murky, slightly brownish orange with moderate-sized soapy white head. Aroma has very herbal, tea-like bitterness with some citrus. Flavour also has a lot of tea-like character with herbal hops, some citrus and a little caramel sweetness. Not much carbonation, body a little lighter than expected. Good.
