This is a nice nut brown ale. It is right for the style with a little bit of caramel, some roasty richness and well balanced.

goes down real easy. A nice sweet taste with a bitter aftertaste. I like this beer. reminds me of Kawartha Lakes Nut brown ale.

Brown color, foamy tan head. Sweet malty and some hops in the nose. Good malt flavors and a pleasant hop finish. Nice beer, if not a little on the sweet side.

Excellent use of choc. malt, tons of it with a nice Northern brewer (I ate the pellets with Dabosk!), Mt. Hood (and two others, things were hazy all weekend) hop profile.Seemed hoppy-crisp, well-balanced.

Toasted malt aroma, chestnut colour, nice toffee head. Good bitterness, and malty too. Bittersweet and creamy, really good on tap!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 6, 2002
Clear light chestnut (a little light) with a thin tiny bubbled light tan head. Suspended flecks. Light carbonation. Roasted/toasted aroma with hints of caramel, cocoa and berries. Medium body. Toasty malts with some light chocolate and mild sweetness. Citric hop overlay. Decent balance, but the hops have an adverse on the malts (to me anyway). They kind of squelch the obviously solid malt backbone underneath. Long malty finish at the end, where the hops subside a bit. A tasty brew, just back off on the citric hops a bit (my preference in a brown ale is to be malt dominant).

First of all, I’m not just copying Oakes’ numbers. (I actually arrived at mine independently). Deep red-brown. Decent head retention. Good malty nose. I enjoyed this at room temperature and it let the flavours shine. Decent malt with some nice toastiness. Good drinking beer. Perhaps a little thin on mouthfeel, but really, not every beer needs to be chewing gum.
