Commercial Description:
This is a darker offering from Black Oak. Rich smooth taste, slightly roasty and chocolaty. It's a bit less hopped, but still has a fantastic balance with the malt.

A few seconds of coloured head over a beer looking like Coca-Cola, but with less carbonation. Smoked nose, hickory, maple syrup, nuts, milk chocolate. First impression is dry, woody, even bitterish, but fills in gradually with more sweet malty elements, again milkchocolate. Balance is indeed quite good. In the aftertaste I get again bitter, probably hoppy, less than roasted malts. Medium bodied at best certain grist slickness, smooth. Interesting sample of an somewhat orphaned style. Thanks, Steve!

341ml bottle acquired in trade with blankboy (thanks!). Poured a medium brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of stronger caramel with some roast and nuts. Tastes of the same strong caramel, chocolate, and toasted nuts. On the sweeter side. Thinner body.

Roasty-toasty goodness. Lovely amber colour--great full taste. A good break from my usual love--pilsners.

341 ml bottle - Pours a dark amber/copper with an off- white head that diminishes but remains until the bottom of the glass. Malty aroma with some caramel and hops. Flavour is largely malt, with some hops in the regrettably short finish. Notes of toffee, tar, walnut, hazelnut, and a small coffee presence in the taste. Fairly complex flavours for the short time the tastes remain in the mouth. Light bodied and easily drinkable. A nice late summer/ fall session.

[037-20060905] 330mL. Rich, roasted malt aroma. Brown body with an off-white creamy head and a few outer rim bubbles. Coarsely roasted nutty package, light alcohol. Full body, nicely comes together. Would love to try a smoother package.

Thanks to HogTownHarry for the bottle! Poured a clear iced tea brown with a short cap of white head. Nose was very sweet and very nutty with some oaky spiciness going on. The flavor picked up lightly-roasted chocolate and hazlenut... oaky and earthy bitterness... and faint berries. Roasty chocolate and nutty finish with mild herbal bitterness. Very nice brew! Thanks, Harry!

Draught @ TFOB: : Pours ruby copper with a light white head that left pretty fast. Aroma of spices, chocolate, and roasted malt that I found pleasing. Taste is very good with a hit up front of roasted malts and chocolate, settling to a decent "hop bomb" as this brewery seems to be well known for.

341ml bottle. Nice, smooth, malty brown ale. Pours a dark chocolately copper colour with a nice white head that left a nice lacing in the glass. Lots of malts, hazelnut, toffee, chocolate...actually fairly complex in flavour. There’s a nice hoppiness in there in the finish to back up the malt. Good stuff from Black Oak!
