DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2006 Thanks to Hogtoen Harry for this one. The pour was dark copper with ruby tinges and an off-white head. The aroma was roasty malty, with chocoff coupled with almonds and hazelnuts. The flavor was roasty malty also, with a huge hazelnut component and a lot of dark chocolate. Medium, nicely complex palate, with some mild tobacco and cabernet hints as it warms. It does lose a bit of body density as it warms, but i must say that this is one of the better nut brown ales I have yet quaffed. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 18, 2006 Draught @ C’est. Very disappointing. I recall having this in the bottle and enjoying it, but on tap it was thin, flavourless and minerally. Very undefined malt structure and the hops were nonexistent. Promise to re-rate from the bottle, which seems to be superior. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA May 9, 2006 (341 ml bottle: Obtained 24-Mar-06 in trade with blankboy, thanks Paul!) I’m immediately struck by the spicy, peppery, woody aromatic nose on this beer. Malts smell somewhat grainy. Very aromatic and it really has me anticipating the upcoming flavor. Roasty, grainy, very nutty, spicy, kind of sharp and moderately bitter, and then whoa, what a tasty blast of lightly bitter baker’s chocolate very late in the finish, mmm! Medium bodied from start to finish and well carbonated. Light brown in color, or dark amber, if you prefer. Clarity is nearly perfect, and since the color is not too dark, I can easily see through the beer. Small, off-white head gradually settles to a wide ring and leaves several spots of lace all over the glass. Overall, a very interesting brown ale that presents a different set of flavors from most other brown ales, which I greatly appreciate, but also a set of very enjoyable flavors that work well together. A well-made brown ale with true character. mooser (13), Ontario, Canada May 4, 2006 Nice dark colour. Sweet malt taste with a good roasted malt finish. This is such a lovely beer. johndan (3), Toronto, Ontario, Canada does not count Apr 28, 2006 bottle, Tulip glass, Nice head, nice brown colour, malty aroma and taste, light hop finish and lacing, beautiful beer. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Apr 15, 2006 Pours a light, but very deep brown coloring, with a small creamy head that disiipates quickly. Somewhat sour, but overly roasted nutty aroma. Flavor is full of rich and sweet caramel, bittersweet chocolate and salty hazelnuts. Lacking. ruggedman (613), Portland, Maine, USA Mar 30, 2006 Bottle thanks to HogTownHarry. Pours a brown coppery color with a small head. I really didn’t like the smell of this beer, so i didn’t investigate that too well as i found it kind of not a good feature. Rather i focused on taste, which was quite nice. Starts off a nice nutty roasted malt flavor which blends nicely into a somewhat well hopped finish. I liked the taste a lot, just kind of sad the aroma set me off. turg (156), Quebec, Canada Mar 16, 2006 Bottle 341ml. Appearance: Dark brown color with a white head. Aroma: malty, roasty nut, chocolate. Flavor: malty, fruity, hazelnut. Thank Harry.
