COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a darker offering from Black Oak. Rich smooth taste, slightly roasty and chocolaty. It’s a bit less hopped, but still has a fantastic balance with the malt.

341ml bottle. Pours a reddish mahogany brown with a good sized, off-white head. Aroma is malty with some sweet nuts like pecan or hazelnut. Roasty nuttiness in the back of the mouth with a brown sugar malt. Touch of earthy hops. Mouthfeel is very smooth, like velvet. Overall, very nice, like lighter, nuttier porter.

Has a bit of oaky bitterness. Smells a little of roast malt but taste is basically watery. Smell is light, body is light. Probably the weakest beer I’ve had from a usually good brewery. Small bottle.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2012 Bottle from brewery, served at cellar temperature. Crystal clear brown, with an orangey tinge to it. Aroma is a little fruity. Rich taste of nuts, malt, roasted malt, chocolate, and even a little fruit; very well balanced. A bigger body than you’d expect from a 5% brew. A solid brown ale; I could have a few of these in a row.

Dark brown and amber pour. Aroma mildly nutty but more of roasted malt, a little chocolate and toffee. Thin body. A little watery. Smoky caramel and soft finish. Not a lot too this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

342ml bottle from the LCBO, 2011 release. Light mahogany with a light biege head. Nice roasted malts, some caramel, barley and a bit of dough, light hazelnut. Moderate carbonation, little thin but decent, sweet, becomes dry and malty on the finish, some nuttiness. A decent brown.

Bottle. Deep brown. Leading characters are chicory, toast, and I suppose some nuts. Slighly chewy. Pleasant, unspectacular

Appearance: Translucent reddish brown, minimal head, high carbonation. Aroma: watery, roasted nuts, malt. Palate is thin and watery, high carbonation. Taste is strongly of nuts and malt, but not much there.

March 20, 2011; from 341mL ISB, refrigerated, BBD: None Lots of roasted chocolate malt in the nose. A short head with not a lot of visible carbonation. Head sticks around for a little bit, tan. Deep syrupy brown in colour. Bittering hops comes through in the aftertaste after malted mix of roasted nuts, chocolate and sweet toffee. Very balanced. Not much aroma as the beer sits. Carbonation is a little surprising versus what is visible which makes the beer quite refreshing. It’s tasty from sweet chocolate and toffee, yet refreshing from hops and carbonation.
