Imperial-John (113), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Sep 17, 2008 Faint smoke, roasty, burnt sugar aroma.
Dark brown/black with foamy tan head that reduces quickly. Tasty bittersweet Porter, roasted, malty, with cinnamon. It’s almost a year later and it has mellowed nicely and with a more intense edgey taste.
DavidP (1719), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 15, 2008 Black body, small tan head. Winter spice and chocolately malt aroma. The flavor lacks the core milk dud sweetness and favors roast malt and holiday spice. A very subdued spiced beer. MesandSim (4623), Highgate, Greater London, England Sep 29, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle at home thanks to the ever generous Hog Town Harry.
Black as the ace of spades with a decent and lasting beige head with good bubble variation. Rich malt backing supports the cinnamon, clove and nutmeg notes really well. Harry was worried about the age of this bottle (year and a half Harry?) but if anything it gave it a really pleasant faint musty note in the background. There is a definite hint of Speyside about it too. Really nice and creamy feel. Good dry chocolate finish. Interesting and enjoyable. Thanks Harry. PaulHegedus (175), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Sep 15, 2008 Draught and bottle at Volo, November 2007. Part of Volo’s ’Nutcracker Suite’ tasting night. Draught was definitely superior, with the mouthfeel being most prominently different: more full, thicker. This holds coffee and chocolate aromas, with similar flavours plus some roasted nuttiness. Maybe I’m influenced by the cinnabomb in the tasting lineup, but the cinnamon flavour does not seem very big. mreusch (481), Olathe, Kansas, USA Sep 6, 2008 341ml bottle, with thanks to HogTownHarry for the excellent bonus! Pours a dark brown with a large frothy tan head that lingers, moderate lacing. Aroma is roast, cinnamon, chocolate and just the slightest of smoke. Flavor is more roast dominated with some light cinnamon, but a bit thin. Thanks again for the chance to try Harry!
