OnBeerGal (5), Canada does not count Jul 11, 2006 At home, crisp golden yellow, with a bit of citrus. A nice refreshing easy drinking pale ale. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2007 341 ml bottle. pours golden with a small white head. hoppy aromas and flavours. not bad at all. actually as i drink it it gets better. not the best apa but very nice. ill have to investigate this brewer a little furthur. Rcr84 (33), Canada Jul 4, 2007 Great pale ale. Very well hopped. Nice to find a beer like this on the market, if only more people would try this over a pathetic beer like Keiths. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 10, 2003 Updated: Sep 22, 2004Nice golden body with a good sized white head, and decent lacing. Aroma is pleasantly hoppy with the citrus notes of the Northern Brewer hops sticking out a lot more when it is freshest. A nice tulip glass will aid in bringing out the aroma aas well. Nice smooth medium body. Flavour is pleasantly bitter, closer to the English style really despite the use of American hops, with a healthy does of malt to back it hope. The maltiness seems to have fluctuated mildly with brewmaster changes over the years adding subtle differences. Pleasant bitter finish lingers just long enough. Could use a touch more of the hoppy citrus notes to really be an APA. One of my favorite beers. I enjoy the balance and it is one of the beers that consistently satisfies me.
Check out the cask Hop Bomb editions that show up occassionally for a treat. Nice.
mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada Aug 9, 2004 On Cask @ the TO beer festival. This was the TO hop bomb version and iwas gooood. Hazy yellow colour with no head. The mouthfeel was lively even w/o carbonation. Great aroma and taste of white grapefruit and pine. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Aug 20, 2004 Sampled from keg at Phog Lounge, Windsor Ontario. Poured golden and clear, thin clingy head. Hoppy aroma, firm maltiness with abundant bitterness throughout. The best Canadian Pale Ale I've come across. chainman (103), Ontario, Canada Feb 15, 2007 (341 ml bottle) Pours a deep reddish-gold...big points for appearance alone! Probably the nicest head I have ever seen on a beer - big, fluffy, great retention. Onto the taste...this brewer is known for their love of hops, and it comes through in this beer. Hoppy but not overdone, the malts perfectly balance it out. Medium carbonation accentuates the bitter edge and lets the taste linger for just long enough. All in all, a quality pale ale that I will definitely buy again. This is the kind of beer that makes me wonder why anybody walks into the Beer Store and buys Canadian or even Alexander Keith’s. For a dollar more, you can have this wonderful beer, and taste the difference that craft brewing makes. JustinBathurst (134), Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada Mar 24, 2005
Very nice appearance, a little bit of head, nice chorus of tiny bubbles rising upwards. Amber, on the orange-yellow side of things. I smell something sweet, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it reminds me of. The sweet fragrance comes out in the taste when swallowing, quite a nice balance between sweet beginning and ever-so-slightly bitter finish (a bit of copper).
Hmm. After having some more the copper starts to become more pronounced, the bitter side starts to dominate over the sweet fragrance initially noted.
Not too bad. Above average for sure, but not perfected by any means.
