[4789-20120918] Cask. Lemon cake and lemongrass pepper Pledge cleaner aroma. Hazy, dark orange body with a quick foamy white head. More lemongrass Pledge and peppery bitter grains flavour. Medium body. Interesting, nice lemony tangerine notes. (7/3/7/3/15) 3.5

Cask, Black Oak Tap Takeover at Volo. Sep. 18. Pours a hazy orange with a spare diminishing white head. Slight mild aroma is fruity along with some pepper and lemongrass. Flavour is pepper first followed by malt, lemongrass and light hops. Average bodied. Not great but a decent, unique and interesting beer.

On cask at Volo
Aroma frontal black pepper with hints of lemon grass.6+
Appearance amber with some haze. Tanned top with some lace.
Flavor and Palate : Nutty with lemongrass hints, softer base , lower carbonation. Pepper feel that went bit medicinal. Finishing with heat.

Cask @ C’est What?
Clear golden brew, long lasting creamy top.
Fresh, oriental lemon like aroma. Green tea with herbs. Good refreshing nose.
Clean, straight ale . More of aroma theme, citric green tea. Gentle, herbal and drinkable. I might one more .

On cask at the Only (Toronto Beer Week 2012 event). Pours a fairly clear golden orange with modest-sized white head. Aroma is quite lemony and sweet with some light peppery spiciness that keeps the sweetness under control. Flavour is candied lemon, quite juicy, herbal/pepper, increasingly peppered as it warms. Light peppery burn in finish. A bit syrupy. Pleasant but another I wouldn’t drink in large quantities.

Sampled @ C’est What Craft Brewers Fest Lots of fresh pepper greet the nose, tiny hint of lemon, light yellow, tiny white head. Juicy, wet hops give forth an appreciated bitterness, some malt, while the lemon and pepper are subtle. Light bodied, spicey, nice tongue tingle. Very nice, seems like a saison or a farm house ale. Innovative stuff Adrian!

shintriad (700) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 8, 2007
Spicy scent of white pepper and citrus. A bit weiss-like in appearance and body, good-looking head on a very pale yellow beer. Thin mouthfeel, but very heady and citrussy (esp. lemongrass). Best of show, IMO.

Sampled at the C’est What spring fest. Another great Black Oak beer......although im not sure I could drink more than one pint. My only complaint is the pepper could have been toned down a touch.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 2012-09-18. Pleasantly hazy orange, small off-white head and lace. 3++ Flavour is interesting, oddly sweet, sort of fruity, peppery character that starts mild and grows fairly quickly, mild lemon and muted orange notes. 6+ Aroma is on the mild side, modestly peppery, black pepper powder as opposed to peppercorns. 6+ Smooth average plus bodied palate is under carbonated. Okay. 7/4/7/3/14 Cask, as Sparge-ti-cus Black Oak Tap Takeover at Volo, Toronto

2007-05-XX. Golden yellow body with a small white head. (3+) Muted aroma, light notes of lemon and pepper. Hops are overshadowed. Similar flavour, with pepper that shows up in the back of the throat and aftertaste. Lemon blends with a light fruity/yeasty character. (6+) Average palate. Quite pleasant, this is a nice change of pace that mellows and blends better as the glass goes on. Draft at C’est What.

Pint at C’est What. Nice golden appearance, pours with a full, substanial head. Nicely carbonated (i.e. not too fizzy). The problem for me was that this tasted like someone had dumped a couple tablespoons of lemon Shake n’ Bake into my pint. The lemon pepper flavour was very artificial and I think the MSG in the flavouring gave me a headache. I’d give this another try if it was flavoured with natural ingredients.

Cask. Light orange-yellow body with a small soapy white head. Fresh, lemony soap aroma - also some oranges and tangerines along with biscuit malts. Very palatable, soft & creamy. Somewhat bitter up front, but tastefully so, and noticeably leafy in the middle with biscuity crisp malts. Only moderately peppery in the finish. Very drinkable.
Sampled at the C’est What Spring Festival Of Craft Brewers on May 25, 2007.
