I’m pretty disappointed by this. Black Oak makes some good beers but this just falls short of expectations and other beers in the style.

Bottle, shared with TylerDurden. Deep copper orange, off white head. Bit if caramel, bit of ginger, kind if sweet for a saison, estery yeast keeps it from drifting too far afield. Easy drinker but a saison?

Pale orange with a nice white foam. Very pepper/coriander, some citrus and a little herbal. A little bitter, mainly in the aftertaste. Slick texture with a liively carbonation, quite not enough dry.

Pours orange yellow with a small white ring. Aroma is orange, yeast and wheat. Taste is wheat, malt with a touch of orange zest and spice.

Bomber from the LCBO, under "Black Oak Saison" now (not summer). Pours a clear golden-amber colour with a frothy white cap, good retention because of very active carbonation. Gets a little hazy at the next pour. Mostly orange aromas from the zest. Citrus notes, honey and pepper. Pretty much the same for the taste, but milder. The wheat comes out in the finish. Pretty good overall, but missing a little balance to be a nice Saison.

22 oz bottle at the Hart House Craft Beer Festival, served in a tasting glass. Pours clear amber with a small white head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of lace. The nose has big Belgian spice, with citrus, soft hops, earth and pale malts. The flavour is lightly sweet with a moderate spiciness and subtle hoppiness. The finish is lightly spicy with malts and earth. On the palate it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a decent, but somewhat simple, saison. Light and refreshing for summer, but not overly complex. 2014-07-31

Bottle - Citrus, fruity esters and spice. Hazy gold with a rich white head. Light malts, light fruit and some citrus, with a bit of yeast in the finish. Basic but nice.

Pours amber with next to no head. Nose of hops, honey and roasted malts. Bitter hops, with the same in the aftertaste, honey flavour, malts, and citrus on a long draw. Meh.

Fiche technique Style: Saison Format: 650 ml Taux d?alcool: 4,5%
