4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
My rating for this beer seems to be an outlier, by far. Nonetheless, I had this at St. Veronous in Peterborough, Ontario, when it was featured as the "guest beer". I had ernestly meant to spend the week-end drinking my way through St. Veronous’ massive collection of Belgians, when this brew stopped me in my tracks. I spent four sessions at the establishment and couldn’t resist having this again and again.
Aroma: 5/5. Simply fantastic! Citrus, honey, and long-forgotten teen-age girlfriends.
Apperance: decently thick head that only abates after a few minutes to leave a lovely light covering and decent ring.
Taste: huge corriander and a little citrus. Sweeter than expected, but wholly welcome. Good malt backing, but fruit, flowers, spice and honey are the stars. Supremely drinkable as any session should. Last drops go down like an epic greek tragedy...

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Can’t believe I new rated this one. Golden yellow colour. The aroma is a little strange, yeast and esters there is but there is a certain funk, like zucchini bread or another vegetal note with brown sugar sweetness. Not a fan of the aroma. Medium bodied note, some sugary texture and a fast finish. Not impressed.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - 650ml. Cloudy orange body with a fading off-white foamy head. Fresh hoppy aroma with malty, orange, coriander, and flowery hints. Its good malty/hoppy taste carries grainy., herbal, coriander, and citrusy notes. Ends with a decent bitter/herbal finish. Enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from LCBO. Musty yeasty spicy aroma with plenty of orange. Taste is sweet, with orange, wheat and spice. Nice, but a tad too sweet and orangey. Still a quality beer.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I’m pretty disappointed by this. Black Oak makes some good beers but this just falls short of expectations and other beers in the style.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, shared with TylerDurden. Deep copper orange, off white head. Bit if caramel, bit of ginger, kind if sweet for a saison, estery yeast keeps it from drifting too far afield. Easy drinker but a saison?

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pale orange with a nice white foam. Very pepper/coriander, some citrus and a little herbal. A little bitter, mainly in the aftertaste. Slick texture with a liively carbonation, quite not enough dry.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from the LCBO, under "Black Oak Saison" now (not summer). Pours a clear golden-amber colour with a frothy white cap, good retention because of very active carbonation. Gets a little hazy at the next pour. Mostly orange aromas from the zest. Citrus notes, honey and pepper. Pretty much the same for the taste, but milder. The wheat comes out in the finish. Pretty good overall, but missing a little balance to be a nice Saison.
