Bottled@The Chriso Rock The Roof Down pre-GBBF shindig. Amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts with some mild bisquity notes and also very much fruity and floral hops and some mild honey as well. Flavour is very much fruity and floral hops in a quite bittery, but sweetish kind of way. Also has some maltyness and mild vanilla to it. A nice IIPA.

31st July 2010. ChrisO’s ’Raise The Roof’ tasting.
Last beer (for me) of a long days tasting. Clear amber beer. Little white head. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Sweet hops - pineapple and mango - lovely and fresh. Finishes dry. Good stuff and great final beer!

Hazy red-amber color; small head. Nice aroma of caramel and hops, a bit sweaty. Good toffee flavor; the mouthfeel is lean, no crystal; strong bitterness, providing nice orangey resins, and a tea final. Long end.
Very good, powerful but easy to drink.

Thanks, Doug! Hazy orangey-amber. The aroma is a chewy, oxidized hop. I think as an XI this is from 2011, so it’s been aged a bit. The palate is actually a bit light and soft, though with some chewy crystal and oxidized hop character. There’s a touch of alcohol in the finish. Fits the style.

From the Bottle at Chris O’s pre GBBF tasting, Kensal Rise 31/07/2010 Big hop aroma. Golden coloured hoppy and floral with some alcohol present. A hint of dryness in a crisp and bitter malt finish.

Enjoyed on-tap at Rhino’s. This beer is the rage, and a rare DIPA in the Ontario market, worth the try. Pours cloudy grapefruit with sitting pretty white crowning head, and a sheet of lace. Hop aromas. The taste is big bitter, with malting to tame it somewhat. A DIPA all the way, and alcohol is well hidden. Full mouthfeel.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2010 Cask at the Winking Judge. Way better than the first time I tried this. Intense, chewy resiny hop character with loads of bright orange and pine character. Intensely piny with loads of dry-hopped flavour on the back. Clean pale malt and a nice dryness that really accentuates the hops. Practically perfect for a session. Tap at bierbistro. Deep amber-red pour with a tight white lace over the top. The nose is quite grapefruity and hoppy with a bright, fragrant hop bouquet. Lots of fresh hoppy nose. Grapefruit and pine cones along with a soft kiss of resiny hop flavour. Lean-bodies with a touch of light toasty malt playing off of the citrus hoppiness. Sort of a long, clean lingering bitterness. Really tasty IPA - fresh and bright. 8 4 8 4 16

My Bottom Line:
Coniferous and spicy hop intensity thrives within this strong ale’s lean biscuity and caramel malt flavors, sculpting a straightforward but highly enjoyable brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the hazy amber.
-The dry-hopping job is wonderful on this one! Must have been absolutely lovely on tap, or on cask.
-The grassy hop bitterness is long and quite pleasant.
-The high alcohol is beautifully hidden by the brazen hop presence.
-The base beer seems quite ordinary, but the beautiful hop aroma and finish make you focus on something else.

Bottle.

2009-11-29. Hazy dark amber body, modest lightly foamy white head and lace. 3+ Flavour has a lovely bitterness throughout, citrus melange, light leafy green hops in the finish. Bitterness grows as the glass goes on. Citrus starts to let the leafy green hops take the lead a bit more. Aroma is pleasant. Interesting blend of leafy green hops and modest citrus blend. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is excellent for a cask, but a touch under carbonated. 3+ Really quite good. Congrats on 10 years guys, I hope we don’t wait another 10 to see this beer again! On cask at Volo, Toronto
