A deliciously dark and full flavoured beer inspired by a traditional porter recipe. Overtones of chocolate mixed with a hint of coffee alongside a pleasing aroma of hops - one for the connoisseur.

Cask, The Salmon, Leicester. Black with a cream foam. Aromas are earthy peat with coffee and chocolate. Woody and peppery with burnt toast. Flavours are roast coffee with fruity dark chocolate bitterness. Some oiliness with sweet toffee and liquorice. Hints of tart citrus and dry on the finish. Solid and robust.

Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2012. Gravity dispense. Ruby black in colour with a loose buff head. Strong roast coffee bean in the long, lingering aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a rich coffee flavour with plain chocolate and black treacle also evident. Slight earthy hops noted in the short bitter aftertaste. Dry notes intensify in the finish with chicory and liquorice flavours coming through. A decent session porter and well recommended.

On cask at The Paisley Beer Festival. Pours a dark brown colour with a fair beige head. A lovely aroma of chocolate, alcohol and caramel. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. A nice dark cooking chocolate and roasty malt linger.

Cask conditioned handpump Salmon Leicester. A black beer with a lasting whitish head and lacing. A veggy smoky malty porter. Initial roastiness dissipates. A bit of licorice. Lots of flavour. Pretty good.
