3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest ’13. Hazy amber with slight head. Quite a thinnish beer for the ABV, watery developing a peachy fruitiness later on. Just a little underwhelming.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On cask at the Olde Dolphin Inne (Derby)
On opening night of the July beer festival there were plenty of choices on the board. Going for this one I was not let down. Other than being a bit expensive (blame it on the festival) I received a typical and mostly balanced ESB. If I saw another Black Paw on cask I would probably be willing to get it a shot.
Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy ruby base keeps only a wisp of head. Inside is mainly malty iced tea and a flatness that is vaguely bitter. If you are expecting a burst of hops then prepare to be let down.
Flavor / Palate - Iced tea with a small scoop of sugar tickles the tongue at the start of each sip. Malts rest on the woody texture that is the basis for a dry transitional period. Lastly a creaminess rinses away most of the bitterness leaving only a vague sweetness. Perhaps this should not be labelled as an IPA but it does work as a good sessionable lunchtime tap.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pint at The Tilley Stone Gateshead. Brown with a thin disappating off white head. little aroma, predominant toffee flavour. Quite mild bitterness for something claiming to be an IPA. Nothing developed as I worked my way down the glass, and I truly wished for some juicy fruity flavour, or creaminess to maintain interest. Dull and disappointing.

500ml bottle from the Crafty Pint, Darlington. Clear copper amber colour, thin off-white head and aroma of malt & toffee with a hint of roast coffee. Taste is similar malty with toffee and a roasted coffee note. Sweetish, with some bitterness through to a fruity dry finish. OK bitter.

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask gravity Paisley Beer Festival. Pours amber with off white thin head. Aroma of wet laundry and cut grass. No discernable IPA taste. Another misnomer to call it an IPA . Really poor compared to Mordue and Davaar at same venue.

On cask at The Paisley Beer Festival. Pours a dark golden colour with a lacy beige head. Aroma of lemon, grassy hops, yeast and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Quite dry to finish. OK.
