COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“La Petite Mort” means “a little death” in French. What’s a little death if it comes in this form? Well worth it we think. La Petite Mort was released on July 14, Bastille day and quickly sold out. Luckily the brewers racked some over into bourbon barrels and set it aside to become Bourbon Barrel Aged La Petite Mort. Released annually in December.

Draft at brew pub. Rich pecan brown with a thin but tight khaki head...leaves spotted lacing. Sweet caramel, vanilla, light tobacco, meld of prune and raisin, hints of cheese funk all wrapped up in a balanced meld of bourbon barrel. The carbonation on this is much smoother and has more of a creamy feel the regular version. Sweet caramel with dried dark fruit notes, vanilla, light bourbon, brown sugar, dark wheat bread and some estery Belgian yeastiness. The barrel has done so much to improve this beer.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2009 The bourbon barrel aging seems to have mellowed this brew over the few months in the barrel. Pours an off white head over a rich amber body with minimal lacing. Sweet bourbon aromas with brown sugar, caramel, and flan. Dry on the tongue: stone fruits, bourbon, oak, and white raisin. Could drink this every other day.

Bourbon on top of dark fruit, raisins, caramel, brown sugar, and notes of belgian yeast. Dark brown pour, thin off white head. The flavor is nice and sweet bourbon followed by dark fruit belgian yeast notes, brown sugar and vanilla. Alcohol is masked well and is very flavorful well done beer.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Pours a clear nutty brown with a rough off-white head. Heavy, sweet Bourbon aroma. Rather solid body, dark dried fruits combined with heavy Bourbon and syrup. Close to the legendary "Amager Hr. Papsø". 161211

Black, mahogany edges, thin head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, molasses, raisin. Taste is nice and smooth, lots of sweetness, some alcohol/bourbon. Very nice stuff.

On tap @ Beer Junction. Pours semi-translucent cola brownish with thin cream colored head. Aroma is rich oaky chocolatey malt and huge sweet bourbon. Taste is light bodied roasty milk chocolate malt with big cocoa flavors. Bourbon flavor and heat comes on at the back, quite balanced with the malt. Impressively rich flavor relative to the thin body on this. Not much Belgian yeast that I can pick out either. Still, the bourbon does wonders for this and really accentuates the rich malts.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin off-white head. The bourbon aroma is noticable, along with a complex sweetness with toffee, brown sugar, and sticky fruit notes. Flavor is sweet with a lot of the toffee brown sugar, plus dark dried fruit. Definitely a lot of raisin in the flavor. There’s a hint of Belgian yeast spiciness and a distinct but not overpowering bourbon character. This is nice, complex, and subtle.

Dark toffee, clear and still in the glass. Strong warm bourbon nose. Dark cherry & old oak. Cherry vinous body, warm & lovely with wood and top shelf goodness.

Sample from 65 cl. bottle. Dark, unclear amber color with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, vanilla, wet wood, sweet ingredients like spices and marzipan. Taste is sweet with notes of vanilla, licorice, wood, some alcoholic sweetness. Full body. Long finish with dark fruits and spices. Excellent.
