Draft at pub. Pours a slightly hazed dark mahogany brown with very little sign of carbonation...just a small halo of loose flabby bubbles. Nutty roasted malt, molasses, vanilla, caramel, dried dates, raisins...the bourbon is also quite present as well wrapping the whole nose up. The carbonation is more in the feel than the pour suggested. Nice and light, but lends to a creamy feel...feels right for the style. The base porter gets a little lost in the barrel on this one. The roasty/nuttiness gets a little tart from the barrel. A malty cola flavor comes through in the front, the the barrel just takes over. Giving it a watered down flat bourbon beer flavor with a faint nut profile on the end from the pecans. I would love to see this done with a double version of the Tamerlane, as I think that would hold up better in the barrel. I am loving Black Raven doing these releases though...keep em coming!

Washington Brewers Festival 2011 – Kenmore, WA
Dark Brown in color, clear with a thin tan head. Lots of aroma Bourbon and roasty malt. I loved this Bourbon porter this was easy drinking great flavors from both beer and barrel. There is a nutty flavor with this and that’s from the pecans. One of the better beers for the entire festival.
