In tap at brewery. Pours inky black with small beige head that disappears quick. Nose of big bourbon, licorice, molasses, chocolate.big in the mouth but enough carb to help overcome how cloying it is. Tate is sweet with same flavors as nose but throw in some dark fruits. Great beer for sure. I want more than one glass, which is the limit here

Bottle, thanks to Jeremy. Sampled alongside a few barrel-aged imperial stouts last night, and for this reason (I think) my notes read "stouty appearance." Fair enough, it looked like the others, and poured with minimal head. Aroma: bittersweet chocolate and roast. Some caramel and ash hanging around in there. Taste: a lot less sweet than the other beers of the night -- nice big roasty start; followed by layers of chocolate and caramel; finishes dry, bitter, and big. Maybe some plum/raisin lurking behind all the rest, but didnít really notice that until it was pointed out by OldMrCrow. Medium/full body, livelier than average carbonation. Overall: Solid imperial stout. Will probably pick up a bottle or two next time itís released.

Bottle at Prufrockís place -- thanks J.!

Near-black pour with a coarse tan head. Huge plum-raisin thing going on in the aroma, quite a departure from other, ashier imperial stouts we had open that night. Hints of citrus late; port; cigar. Rawer than the other imperial stouts of the night, hops forward and more resinous, a Stone Ruinition type hop oil coating the tongue after the rest of the flavor profile fades. Relatively aggressive carbonation for the style. This is a decent imperial stout and enjoyable enough but it failed to approach standout of the night.

Bottle from a recent trade with Chris - thanks! Dark black pour with a thick dark tan head. Lots of lacing on this one. Was a bit cold and one dimensional when I first tasted it (lots of chocolate bitterness) but as it warms up its getting a ton of personality. Roasty chocolate and vanilla nose. Chocoloate malt chocolate bitterness and a slight alcohol finish. Tobacco and hop bitterness in there too. Nice.

12oz bottle, sweet trade bonus, pours with an inky dark body that supports a thin mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up big dark roasty malts, earthy chocolate malts, burnt black patent malts and more earthy chocolate goodness at the end of the draw. The taste is pretty smooth yet rich and deep with dark roasted malts, plenty of chocolate malts that have an edge of earthy chocolate and then some spicy black licorice. To midway a bit of booze shows up as well as chocolate and burnt malts that help take this to the finish. Nice stuff thatís rich balanced and deep with roasted malty goodness.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Extremely deep brown... might as well be black. Light tan cap is slow to pile up but mellows out nicely to a chunky collar. Aroma is hearty; mild cocoa, decadent roasted malt, slight coffee bean... Nice aroma, but nothing mild-blowing. Standard for the style. Taste is full-on roasted malt with light char, dark chocolate, and some dates that have been soaked in booze. Booze character is heavy, making this a very slow sipper. Mild oxidation notes of cardboard - strange, this beer isnít that old. Cocoa dust finish, relatively low bitterness for the style. This was a decent beer, but I donít think I liked it as much as everyone else seems to. Itís alright, but Iím not understanding the hype here.

Bottle. Pours black with a mocha head. Aroma is fresh roasted coffee, malts, chocolate and vanilla oak. Taste is bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, fudge, barrel char, and vanilla, oak, dark toffee notes. Medium to full bodied, good carbonation and well balanced with a nice bitter finish.

Pours black with a finger tan head. Smell roasty strong chocolate. Bit of a baltic porter smell. Taste strong roast, chocolate, fudge, vanilla. Good coffee and ash without being overly bitter. Medium body. Good drinking. Solid.
