Ravens in the Scottish Highlands were once thought to possess the gift of second sight, the ability to see future events before they occur. If you are a fan of rich, malty ales then our raven foresees you loving this beer. This beer is built all around the malted barley with hops playing a balancing role. This beer is reddish-brown in color with a wonderful malt nose, delicious malt flavors and a full bodied finish.

Tap. Pours a dark reddish brown with very small off-white head. Cherry and other fruits in the aroma. Sour apple, and cherry in the flavor. Heavy mouthfeel. Smooth with a high alcohol content. Tastes more like a light Barley Wine. Decent beer, good to warm you in the winter.

Tap at the brewpub and growler a couple of days later.

Wow! Lovely, lovely malts. This one has perfect mouthfeel, so gloriously flavorful, orchard-fruity, drinking so nice. Can’t understand why it is so badly underrated on the site. Perhaps it is the relatively straight-forward flavors, well-integrated rather than showy, simple rather than overly complex. In any case, I sure enjoyed this one time and again. Not often that a scotch ale is my favorite among a brewpub’s offerings, let alone that I leave with a growler of such, so this seems high praise.

On tap at the brewery. Least favorite of the night. Pours claret, which wasmy favorite part. Could smell barely anything, just a wee bit of sugar. Taste starts very sweet and then changes leaving a bit of a bitter ending.

Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 11, 2010
Draft. Pours a rather pretty reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma is bready malt and a little caramelly. Flavor is complexly malty and bready, with a bit of a raisiny fruitiness. Touch of a alcohol heat on the finish, but over all the 7% is masked. Has a moderate amount of weight to the body and drinks easy.
