COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A totem is an entity that watches over and represents a clan or tribe. Totem pale represents us well with its citrus hop flavor. The Totem Pale is built on a firm foundation of ESB and crystal malts with generous citrus hop additions. We believe that you will also want to make the Black Raven your totem. Available year-round.

NABA 2010 Silver Medal - American Pale Ale category

Malts: 2-Row Barley, Crystal

Draft pour at the brewery. Pours an oily copper color with a lasting head. Grassy hops aroma. Flavor is pretty grassy as well, with some bitter hop finish. Pretty standard pale, but tasty overall. Iíll take this over a lot of competition.

On tap @ Stout. Pours dark golden with thin white head. Aroma is lightly sweet caramel malt and light crisp earthy hops. Taste is clean medium caramel malt, earthy and mildly oaky on the finish. Hops are present and citrusy, but quite light. Quite flavorful for a pale.

Sampled at GABF 2014. Pours a light body with white head and lacing. Aroma is malt, grain, bitter skunky hop and light fruit. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of malt, caramel, spice, wheat, hop and grass.

Draught at Mukilteo Lodge
Hazy amber color with compact head. The hopping is quite fruity (aroma), the malt flavor is lean, the final is bitter, with some resins and not enough fruits. Tastes old.
Nice but simple.

Serving: from tap at Humble Pie. Aroma: light pine hop. Appearance: no head with fully diminishing longevity. Clear, medium-amber body. Taste: moderately bitter, light grapefruit and nut initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: medium-to-full bodied with watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: pretty good.

Orange with a touch of brown. A little heavy on the malts with moderate bitterness. Hops seem to be a variety of earthy, herbal, and citrus based. Finish is also bitter losing the hop balance in the end.

Draft at their taphouse. Copper brown, tan foam. Dry amber malt. Coppery hop hit. Clean strong beer. Nice one.

Draft at Black Raven. Aroma: Citrus, caramel.

Appearance: Clear amber; offwhite head; irregular lacing.

Taste: Bread; biscuit; toast; citrusl/floral. Muted sweetness, moderate bitter finish.

Palate: Creamy texture, medium to full body, average carbonation.

Overall: Almost an IPA in its bitterness. I like how toasty and dry these Black Raven pales are -- itís a recurring theme that I havenít encountered in many other pales / IPAs.

Aside: Just made my way onto the top 50 raters from Washington. It feels right this mini-milestone was ushered in with local beer (well, as local as the east side is ... itís a shame I canít make it over very often, because itís a fine brewery with a nice tasting room).

Really good pale, nice hop kick but very clean aftertaste. One of their standard taps, a good thing!
