Dark copper pour w/ a small head. Nice c-hop aroma. Dry, peppery hop flavors, ample resin, hint of sweetness coming in behind but never forefront -- darn solid IPA. A pleasant surprise.

Oct 25, 2009 The Black Raven pours about 6 different beers from their taproom and the Trickster is probably their best. A good example of a NW IPA, bright citrus hops and a fairly clean finish with slightly sweet caramel notes. No major flaws, well balanced. Very good.

Sep 13, 2009 12 oz schooner at the Black raven tasting room. Pour is golden copper with a smallish white head. Light lacing. Aroma of hop pine orange citrus and bready caramel malt
- nice balance. Taste is the caramel malt bit over the hops, though they
come through nice with pine and citrus. Gets a little dirty in the end. Palate is medium, nice level of carbonation. Nice enough.

Aug 26, 2009 Clear amber color with a fleeting head. Pine and grapefruit hop aromas. . Smooth medium body. Same pine and citrus in the flavor with sweet caramel malts.

Aug 23, 2009 Pours an orange gold with lots of lacing. Aromas of earth, yeast, bread, faint citrus, and sugar. Palate was a bit weak. Beer tastes of peppery hops and is fairly smooth.

Aug 23, 2009 Updated: Dec 23, 2009Growler right from the brewery. Golden pour with a big frothy white head with good retention. Some visible carbonation. Nose is grassy and piney. Flavor is primarily resin and citrus hops with some sweetness. Grapefruit definitely comes through in the flavor, and I really like the smoothly bitter finish. A very tasty west coast IPA. Every time I try this I seem to want to rerate it higher.
