3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bvc (1004) - Kenmore, USA - DEC 9, 2009
Draft at M&V. Pours a deeper clear golden with creamy tight white head that leaves sticky cotton like lacing. Wow, what a great nose! Full of pineaple, agressive hop resin, grapfruit zest, faint crystal malt breadiness, but really just a ton of citrus resiny hops. Lighter mouth feel with prickly carb feel. Up front I get a lot of the nose in the flavor...lightly sweet pineapple and grassy/pine/citrus hoppy goodness. Moves into some doughy malt and the breaks into really agressive bittering. A little to asertive and I pick up some cleaner or soapy notes that are what keep this beer out of the 4’s...for me. But I can’t wait to try the next brewing of this. Nice work Black Raven!

Pours lighter hazy yellow with a decent lacing. Smell is sweet citrus. Taste is a bit more bitter up front but light and crisp after. Pretty good.

Bottle courtesy of psiweaver in the Good People/No Rules BIF. Served in a Mikasa tulip.
Pours a slightly-hazed peach color with a good white head and loads and loads of lacing on the sides of the glass. The nose brings a bit of alcohol and malt plus some citrus hops and a light bit of pine. Flavor takes a further turn toward the malt, though there’s quite a bit of hop bitterness in the background. Medium body with a bit too much alcohol. Slight chewiness. Decent DIPA.

Bottle from John - thanks! Pours a clear caramel with a bit of orange and a quickly fading white head. Aroma is heavy floral hops, dank pine, citrus, some tropical notes, sweet melon and/or honey, and a sweet malt backbone. Taste is clean bitter hops, pine, citrus, a fairly sweet malt profile, a bit of alcohol, and lingering bitterness through the finish. Even, coating mouthfeel. Good balance between the bitter hops, citrus, and sweet malt profile. Very well done IIPA.

Tap@ Ravens Den. Clear amber color with ivory foam. Big ass dank, spicy pine, medical marijuana, tropical fruit, floral hoppy aromas. Smooth medium body. Awesome pine, Ganja Bud, tropical fruit, floral hoppy bitter flavors in a clean, solid pale malt base brew---very much a SoCal style IPA, and as good as the best of them--excellent

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe for Hopfest, pours a hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of intense pine, resin and tropical fruits. Flavour is intensely piney and resinous with boatloads of hops, with a beautiful accompaniment of tropical fruits and heaps of caramel to balance. Tons of fruity hops with lots of resin. Beautiful.

On tap at Brouwer’s. You really can only find this one by happenstance. Pours a bright transparent orange, with an off-white head that fades to a ring around the glass. Boatloads of citrus on the nose. Grapefruit, mandarin, lemon - you name it, it’s there. Tons of pine sap. So resinous that it almost has a bit of a minty note. Malt and caramel, but not nearly enough to overshadow -- they got the balance right on this one, and this is a brew that could only have been made on the west coast. It’s a massive hop bomb with a wonderful mouthfeel - definitely on the "must-try" list.

Black raven wisdom seeker. Growler courtesy of Tom for sending this
over... Filled almost to the brim, the growler opened up with a small
hiss. Nice. Pours a totally transparent orangey copper brown and
crowned with a thick fluffy barely off-white head... Aroma is citrusy
wth tropical fruit notes as well, plsomewjqt juicy, a bit phenolic
with the alcohol notes...Crisp clean hoppy profile in the flavor with
emphasis on predominantly citrusy fruits and an assertive piney
bitterness as it works its way towards the finish. Clean crystal malt
addition adding a little balance but not disrupting the hopcentric
purpose of the brew. Smooth bodied without being too light nor heavy.
Same goes to the carbonation which was at an adequate level. Really
enjoyed its mostly easy-going nature, sensed a bit of the alcohol
after less than a glass, and for its cleanliness, i really liked it if a touch too sweet. maybe a touch of bitterness would have put this over the edge for me.

Washington Brewers Festival 2011 – Kenmore, WA
Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Huge hops nose floral and earthy tones. Good malt backing makes for a strong flavored beer. I like the earth finish and flavor in this beer it is piney and has a special sweetness to the flavor. A very tasty DIPA.
