The aroma is very delicate and contains whiskey notes along with some smoked malt, oak and a little burnt character. The taste is initially a good, rich coffee flavor that slowly changes into a little dark bitter chocolate reminiscent of the good Belgian Valrhona. Smoky malt with dry end is mixed with a little hop bitterness, and it hangs very long in the mouth. The brewery mentions something about vanilla, but in my mouth, I can not perceive vanilla. Oak ’n Islay may not be enjoyed cold, and it must also be poured into a glass with ample surface. It is really delicious and can be enjoyed for dessert or as enjoyment a late evening hour.

Black with a lasting and creamy light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, whisky and peated smoke. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish. Soft. 060412

From bottle. Black with frothy tan head. Aroma and flavour of peat, vanilla, oak, chocolate and roasted malt. Smoother then expected and with a light mouthfeel.

Pours a dark brown/black, with a brown head.
Off-dry, verging on semi sweet, medium bitterness and body, balanced CO2.

Almost black colour with a low brown head. Vanilla, coconut and peat in aroma. Really weak body due to the barrel ageing with loads of peaty smokiness. It’s Islay Whisky alright and too much for my liking. The maltiness is long gone.

Black color, smallish brown head. Sweet and some vanilla scent. Sweet, some roasted tate. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness.
I kept thinking this was the imperial edition and how different it was from my past experience, not until the end did I figure out it was the "weaker" one so a whole other beer, not strange then that it differs...
It was nice and very drinkable.

Got it closer to room temperature this time around.
Black color, brown head. Smoke, sweet, malty, chocolate, roasted scent and taste. Smooth moutfheel, medium bitterness.
You get used to it fairly fast, then just enjoy it and away it goes rather fast, preparing you for the next, and more is nice.

Bottle.Pours black with an off-white head.Aroma of ash, burnt notes, whisky and chocolate.Flavor is sweet and malty with some roasted notes, ash, whisky, caramel and chocolate,Medium body, average carbonation.Nice but the ash/islay flavor is too dominant.
