COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Pasteurised.
"Beers for bottling are drawn from brewery conditioning tanks and transported by road tanker to our bottlers. There they are chilled, stored for ten days, then filtered and bottled. At the end of the bottling process, the bottles are pasteurised, labelled and packed."
"Brewed with many generous handfuls of choice Golding hops, it is full flavoured ale with a rich fruit nose. The bittersweet malty taste is followed by an uncompromising long, dry and bitter finish. This beer was the first, most successful, of all of our bottled beers."

Quite a spritzy head, which sticks all the way to the bottom, fairly doughy and hoppy aroma. Flavours quite subdued, good hop pressence in the finish. Its decent beer, without being great.

A rather typical English bitter, nice, but nothing special. Bit overdone on the malts, so the balance is offkey.

Nice colour and thick foam, with good bitterness, but a bit suor at the end.

Nice pint, like all the beers from masham they are best at source. A nice red colour and distinctive taste. The best part of this drink must be the after taste. Though I was disapointed with the ’first taste’

eczematic (1297) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - FEB 13, 2002
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2003 very similar to the yorkshire square ale, although maybe a tad more skewed towards the hops. red-toffee colour, fresh honey and grass aromas, full crystal malt body and a caramel fudgey butteriness. spicy, peppery, nutmeggy bitterness in finish. more flavour at 4.4% than some beers with twice that amount of alcohol. rer8: yes there's plenty of flavour but the hard, salty mouthfeel and quick finish bores your tastebuds by halfway through the glass. as with most pasteurised english ales it needs more fruitiness/yeastiness, why they don't bottle condition i dunno.

Dark chocolate, nice hoppy bitterness, a bit on the thin side.

Chocolate-malt on the nose and a fluffy head but after that it was a bit of a let down

Nice looking beer, with an appetizing orangey-amber colour. Tasty and malty, but I should try it again when I’m not eating BBQ hot dogs.

Unique taste - but nothing to write home about
