COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Pasteurised.
"Beers for bottling are drawn from brewery conditioning tanks and transported by road tanker to our bottlers. There they are chilled, stored for ten days, then filtered and bottled. At the end of the bottling process, the bottles are pasteurised, labelled and packed."
"Brewed with many generous handfuls of choice Golding hops, it is full flavoured ale with a rich fruit nose. The bittersweet malty taste is followed by an uncompromising long, dry and bitter finish. This beer was the first, most successful, of all of our bottled beers."

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Asda. Typically lifeless and uninspiring English beer. Hints of orange in the aroma. Orange coloured, crap head but rather lashings of lace surprisingly. Generally hoppy body and nothing else really stands out. Nothing I can be bothered to write about anyway. Don’t bother is my advice.

500ml bottle, from Tesco (BBE Feb 2007). A coppery amber coloured beer with a thin but persistent white head that lasts to the bottom of the glass. My impression of this beer changed as I drank it; initially the aroma seemed to be dominated by robust malt but, as I progressed, dusty hops became more noticeable. A slightly papery element, characteristic of pasteurisation, was a constant component, however. On the palate, the first impression is of sweetish, but hearty malt. The earthy Goldings come through later and lead into a lingering soft bitterness in the aftertaste. In fact, earthy was my lasting impression of this beer. As the commercial description suggests, there is a distinct bittersweet feeling, but the mouthfeel seemed a tad dull and there was a sort of powdery, chalky dryness left in the mouth. Better on cask.

Sehr gut! Test vom 12.8.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,13,13,13,14,13 - 12,85

Hazy dark amber ale with a thick off-white head. Sweet floral aroma with a touch of butterscotch. Sweet malty with nice nuttyness and light bitterness. Medium bodied.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2005 Pale copper colour with a pale yellow rocky hear and very clingy lace. Spicy and earthy, musty aroma. Faint citrus and a lactic sourness as well. Flavour is spicy and citrusy over a decently malty backbone. Nice fruity edge to it. Bitterness is okay as well. This beer is a good bottled example of the style. Seems very similar to their Monty Python Ale.

Medium, yellowish head over clear foxy-amber beer. Dull caramel nose, bit of ureum, dried herbs. After a considerable time, the sulphur perceived in the flavour starts to appear in the nose as well.Bitterish-hoppy, UK hops, but bit dusty. Malt is perceptible, but presents no sweetness. Sulphur very present retronasal. Beer seems to feel a bit tired, despite pretty lively carbonation. Quite OK, but as with so many bottled classic UK brands, it only makes the crave for the cask-drawn version more alive.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2011 Bottled. A grassy smell to the mid brown beer which has a long lasting white head. The taste is very bitter with slightly lemony undertones. Not a special ale!Score 2.7

Bottle. Pours with a small tan head that fades over a hazed orange body. Aroma of caramel, light plums and raisins, toffee and bread. Taste is watery with raisin skins, bready and a light sherry note. Watery mouthfeel and light bubbles.

Tastes like skunky festering grains and mashed apples sat out to rot. Clear golden hue with a decent sized white head. An ok bitterness, mild and lightly prickling the tongue. Overall just really mild, light wheat here and there. Maple syrup in the nose.
