"A full flavoured ale with a rich fruit nose brewed with many generous handfuls of choice Golding hops giving a bittersweet malty taste, followed by an uncompromisingly long, dry and bitter finish. This is the beer that is bottled as Black Sheep Ale."

On tap at the Drill Inn. Pours a cloudy amber colour. Not too much to say. Standard UK bitter really. Almost tastes like mushrooms! Actually didn’t think it was that bad.

Dark copper with white head. Floral, caramel and earth. Fruity, sweet, tobacco and licorice finish. Overall: not a fan of cask ale. Tastes like an old pub.

Cask (Prince Regent, Cambridge)
Pleasant caramelly aroma, some treacle darkness. Nice deep orange, small light head. Nice treacly caramel taste too. Gently twiggy bitterness. A classic English bitter, delicious.

Draught at Toby Carvery in Keighley. Pale gold pour with a small, lasting head. Very little aroma. Nice smooth, typical bitter. Not exciting, but not bad.

Cask Bidford - yellowish amber with white head which maintains good lacing throughout. No carbonation, smooth in mouth and on tongue. Only weak aroma - slightly bitter taste which lasts. Ok - another easily drinkable bitter.

Cask at the Free Press, Cambridge. Copper, clear with a flimsy cream head and mega-lacing. Plentiful carbonation though. One-dimensional but by no means disappointing smell: malt, malt and more malt. The sturdy sweetness of the malt asserts in the sip, with plenty of buttering hop near the end. Bitter finish is fairly long. Some caramel, toast, hazelnut, rubbing alcohol in the aftertaste. Well above the average bitter.

7th July 2015: hand-pulled cask pint in the Kings Heath Cricket Club, Birmingham. Smooth feel to the brew, deep amber body, creamy head that stayed around. Nice blend of flavours: fruity, malty and semi-sweet in the mouth, the aroma hinting of what is to come. The hops come into play towards the end of each sip giving a mildly dry and slightly bitter.

Pint in The Osprey, Newton Mearns. Light golden ale with creamy head. Hoppy aroma. Slight toffee taste with bitter finish. Perfect to sup with crisps or nuts.

4.4% Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 2015. Clear brown amber colour lasting beige head. Caramel yeasty aroma. Some hop on finish. Good balance of yeast malt and hop. Good drying peppery hop.

Cask at the Woodmans Rest, Solihull. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head and lots of clingy lace. The aroma is malt, light hop. The flavour is medium to light bitter with a light, slightly watery malt, strong hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Not so keen on the hop combo here.
