KingofCastle (189), London, Ontario, Canada Sep 15, 2006 500 mL bottle. light orange/copper colour with thin white head. My first impression is a sharp bite in the mouthfeel & the finish. A medium body but not smooth, just a little harsh & thin (maybe all the carbonation in this bottle or those Golding Hops). Defiinte cidery and spicey flavours which I hope mellow out the taste as this pint warms a bit. Not a premium bitter (try Hobgoblin or Fuller’s London Pride which both have more depth of smooth malthy fruit flavours). This only gets a half decent rating because I love this style and that malty after-taste a bitter tries to deliver.
ChainGangGuy (1721), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Nov 27, 2008 16.9 oz. bottle for $3.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a clear, medium amber body with a frothy, inviting, off-white head. Thin traces of lacing.
Smell: Toasted grains with a bit of caramel alongside a spicy-scented, fragrant hop aroma.
Taste: Biscuity malts with a touch of graininess and caramel sweetness. Sip of black tea. Very, very faint fruitiness. Spicy, floral English hops. The bitterness is initially mild but resilient, and increases as you head towards the dry, bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A rather full-flavored session ale with a keen drinkability. Worth a try. AWS9 (136), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Nov 20, 2008 Bottle at Pub Italia in Ottawa. Cool bottle. Nice brown appearance. Nuts and malt in the taste, perhaps a little thin. Pretty good. daknole (1122), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 15, 2008 Ok this was a drainpour for me and everyone that tried it. it barely tasted better than a miller. i dont get how this can have a rating above a 3. no way. mgermani (646), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 2, 2008 Pours a clear amber-orange with a brief head falling to a lingering ring of foam. Alcoholic, white grape & slightly funky hop aroma. Stale malt and funky hop taste, carastan cereal & Kentish goldings. Finish is long, but compromising in taste (more of the stale malt extract taste). Moderate carbonation. Towards the end a fly flew into the glass and died, but it didn’t seem to improve the flavour any. Interesting but quite far from fresh. mesperon (38), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA Oct 31, 2008 foggy amber, medium foamy head. Very faint aroma of mildy swwet malt, hay, and grassy hops. Flavor of bready malt, mild grassy hoppy itterness. Little pepperiness from alcohol. Boring in general, nothing especially pleasant or interesting about it.
