Cask by handpump at Glen Park Hotel, Ayr - golden bet with a very slight haze, bubbly off-white head, good lacing, no detectable aroma, no strong flavour, sweet malty, bit of fruit, bit cold, quite refreshing, no prolonged aftertaste

(Cask): Golden colour with a 1 finger, creamy, white head. Fruity, sweet aroma with hints of hops and citrus. Taste is malty, fruity, hints of citrus in there and a slight bitterness. Overall not bad, a tad boring but drinkable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
The beer that turned me on to cask ale when I was a teenager. A perennial favourite even if it is not very exciting. Sweet aroma, some bitterness to taste, my yardstick for boring session bitters. There are loads worse, there are some better. I like this one.

Cask at Harrow RFC, it’s a great feeling coming off the pitch and spotting the Sheep lurking on the home team’s bar. Clearly carrying much of the brewery’s house style, this is a lighter beer than the bottled Ale, a slightly less robust version of that dry maltiness and peppery fruitiness. As a lighter session beer though, it is supremely drinkable. One of my favourite basic bitters.

On tap @ the Starbank Inn, Edinburgh. Pours golden to amber. Nice head. The nose is of hay and lemon. The taste is of more lemon, hay and some honey. Also, a bit of a cardboard note, unfortunately. The palate is light to medium in body and texture with a clean finish. Overall, so so!

Most common problem you get in English pubs is that you have to drink very average bitter cause the only the worst of the worst lagers are available.
