Big, frothy, lasting off-white crown atop a finely beaded, orange tinged copper body that has just a little haze to it. Nice zesty, floral notes on the nose with hints of fresh baked white bread, caramel and sticky marmalade. Frothy, foamy mouthfeel. Relatively light bodied and subdued for flavour. Bitter orange and floral hop notes in back. Short, floral and mildly plasticy swallow that has just a hint more orange and pine wood. Very subtle toasted malt front. The fermentation gives it a typified Black Sheep nuance that I can’t quite pin point. Becomes more and more citrussy as it goes, with a quenching dryness to the finish. Not bad, just didn’t excite me the way good bitters do!. (50cL, BB 28/02/12, Thirsty Camel, Butler)

Amber, clear, frothy white head, slight lacing
Aroma of light minerals, soft spicy hops, grassy hops
Taste of soft spicy hops, dab of bitter minerals, tad bitter earthy, light caramel background, some cereal, slight citric edge
Palate - Medium carb and body, soft bitter. Finish is quite dry, soft bitter earthy hops
Overall - Traditional English Bitter, for the style quite decent

• Bit of yeast/wheat (‘damp raincoat’ funk) + caramel-y biscuit on nose. [FIRST GOLD HOPS, CHALLENGER HOPS]. • Quite thin body – sweetish, citrus-y. • Honeyed bread, then a bit of a rounded/wheaty end. [MARIS OTTER MALT WHEAT]

A clean, slightly eggy aroma, a nice sweet malt and a marginally more assertive bitterness. It’s balanced but leans a touch in that direction. A hint of metal.

500ml bottle, pours clear gold, small white head. Light caramel and toffee malt, light floral and citrus notes and a little hop spice. Some sweetness in the finish which is well balanced and lightly bitter. Light bodied with a creamy texture and soft carbonation.

Bottle received as a gift. Pours deep orange colour, decent head which fades before too long. A very good golden ale. Plenty of flavours of fruit, honey.

Pours golden with a thick creamy head and high carbonation. Light nose with hops, pineapple hints. Taste has earth, hay, hops, biscuit, slightly metallic and short mildly bitter finish, slightly watery. Palate is a little dry. Okay but nothing special.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Pours orange-amber with a 2 finger head that quickly goes away. Aroma of caramel, biscuit and light citrus. Taste of initial Caramel, then biscuit, some fruitiness, a touch of sweetness, vanilla and honey, then we get orange peel and lemon zest. Good!
