2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, USA - OCT 27, 2011
bottle... dark brown beer, a disturbing amber fringe hue, light tan head, good retention, head did its part... the aroma is just wrong, watery wet grain, light roast, medicinal, just plain wrong... tastes weird and bad, super thin, off roasted marshmellow, finish is charred and bitter... not very good

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2012 Bottle courtesy of Glen ’Imdownthepub’ consumed at mums, Worcester 18.05.12 Thanks Glen! Pours black, pitch black with tan head. Strength is apparent but it is also pleasantly warming. More subtle and less in yer face than many Imperial Stouts. Roasty with chocolate and some late coffee. Very enjoyable. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Bottle at Chriso’s Easter tasting 2012. It pours deep brown, with a thin off-white head. The nose is caramel, roasted malt, toffee and Scottish tablet. The taste is caramel, roasted malt, charcoal, chocolate, meaty, wood and brown sugar, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. An all-round good offering from Black Sheep.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 sinkas (231) - Perth/Fremantle, AUSTRALIA - JAN 25, 2012
Bottle from Mane Liquor,
Never had a RIS so thin and pale, almost no roast character in the grain bill, and to me just tasted like a high gravity dark mild, not bad but not quite what is advertised
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Stephanos (863) - NORTHERN IRELAND - DEC 28, 2011
Cask at maltings, York. Slightly sour balsamic vinegar and cranberries. Dark ruby brown. Rich and fruity with complex edge, more like an old ale. Perhaps a hint of brett.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 ALLOVATE (1706) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - DEC 28, 2011
From the bottle at just on cool on a blisteringly hot 40°C in the shade day (probably not the finest of choices for the moment!). Quite still, viscous and opaque in the glass, a midnight black with a thin, tan layer atop that dwindles. Thick, layered milk chocolate nose with hints of treacle, mochaccino, Kopiko candy and spicy, vinous alcohol. Overly sweet, treacly and cloying in the mouth. Body is tarrish, oily, with a mild, drawing astringency in back before a sweet and warming swallow. Not much length. It’s like liquid milk chocolate with grapeskin tannins and more of the Kopiko candy of the aroma. Just too hard for me to drink this. It’s aroma is enticing, it’s flavour upsetting. Disappointing! Bottle. Dark brown. Allows a lot of light through. Head is tan but not very attractive. Smells sweet. Diluting juice. Taste is big liquorice. Some coffee. Bitter. Tangy. Not great.
