Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Yellow-orange body with a big off-white head. Aroma is earthy and floral. Bland taste -- wateriness complemented by a hint of hops. Much better to stick to the movie.

Very drinkable and smooth but the fruity flavor was too watered down. Also, it wasn’t that bitter.

Tea colored body with a loose tan head that was easily replenished. Malted slightly vinious nose that was a little sharp at times. Semi-winey notes in the mouth along with a little bitterness and sooe raisony characoristics. A bit thin bodied however and a little oxidized.

Rock on, man! I was very happy with this beer, as I’m a Monty Python fan, and I like bitters. This one didn’t disappoint, with one of the best fruity aromas I’ve smelled. Nicely balanced, with a good hoppiness in the finish. Very smooth and drinkable.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2004 I'm saddened Michael Palin and company picked the lame Black Sheep Brewery to produce their beer because I don't like a single thing they make. This beer has a sourish note and disappoints, though I love "Python and the Holy Grail."

Orange-gold color, almost no head. Hoppy bitterness but not too strong. Very average. Paid $2.99 at Sam’s in Chicago.

A smell of hops and apple/apricot, lovely copper coluor but not all clear. Smooth taste with pleasnt bitterness, some apricot

Orange in color, medium-small frothy head that fell rather quickly. However, it has very nice lacing. Aroma is malty and citric (grapefruit). Flavor is initially watery, but quickly turns hoppy and bitter. Finishes lightly bitter and thin. Not much to this beer outside of the bitterness.

Pale, clouded, golden body, light with lots of carbonation. Fruity, spicy aroma. Easy drinking, guzzling palate. Pretty sweet and fruity, but dries out well in the finish. Not much aftertaste, flavors disappear quickly. Pretty uninteresting. Maybe Monty Python could do a better job of a Black Sheep sketch.

Being quite the avid fan, I had high hopes for this - and it wasn’t actually too bad. Not very bitter, as I expected but essentially quite average tasting. But I give it points for such a cool concept!
