Commercial Description:
Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

This ESB is no joke as the lable might lead you to think. Very easy to drink and it goes down fast and smooth. Nice bread light friut, malt and a bit of hop.

Pours slight cloudy amber/orange with a pillowy off white head. Spiced aroma, typical of a nice English ale. Quite fruity, and bready. Taste is bitter, bready malt, a spicy hop and caramel. A nice English Ale.

Dark golden to light copper in color. Clean aroma. Decent enough - fairly hoppy, but with an off flavor I can’t quite describe.

On tap at local sportsbar. This didnt seem at all like and ESB but was pretty yummy stuff. Not very exciting but had a nice tartish finish that was unique. Pretty solid and refreshing. I will have this one again.

Pours a medium orange with about a finger of white head. Smell of straw, and kinda reminds me of mediocre pale lagers. It actually smells a little like heineken. I can get a hint of the ESB in the taste, but it could be crisper. There’s a bit of a sticky-sweet aftertaste that is a bit of a put off. It’s okay, I guess. I guess it works as a session beer.

12oz bottle from Total Wine, Durham, courtesy of my lovely wife. Thanks, wife. Very cool label and everything, but really not a good brew. An anonymous amber pour with generic malty nose, the beer is unimpressive in almost every sense. It has little of the depth or character of the style, but tastes instead like a BMC amber. This is the kind of thing that suckers a yuppie who thinks that beer = England = Python. Or not.

I tried this beer on November 27, 2008 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent reddish-gold with a bubbly tan coloured head and plenty of effervescence. The aroma was grainy and skunky and not at all appealing. Definitely an ESB. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and medium carbonation (despite the effervescence). The flavour is bitter with some grain and citrus notes thrown in.

On tap at the Bocktown, nice place. Pale yellow and slightly hazy. Quarter inch craemy bubbly head. Aroma is a little fruity and even perhaps a little minty. On the palate we have good bubbly sensations for carbonation. Flavor is at first a tad sour then even a little tart, but not like a lambic. Funky in its own kind of way. Weird bitter finish builds on the back of the throat after each sip thru the session. S6L3F3T4o9
