Strong fruity smell with intriguing malty hints. Taste watery at first then some malty bitters hit. More complex as you go, a bit acid, dry fruitiness on the roof of the mouth. After-taste is a bit thick. Relaxing, quality ale. madquacker (712), Canberra ACT, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 19, 2008 Dreaded this fearing a marketing dept driven ale. Was very pleasantly suprised. Frothy white head, citrus aromas with a flat tailing off back in. Very nice. Cloves and spice. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Sep 18, 2008 Aroma was not real pleasant (reminded me of warm budwieser) - taste isn’t bad just boring. kinda grassy/citrus flavor - what do you expect from a beer ’Tempered over burning witches’ - I think I got some of the broom. not my style of brew. austone (1036), Turku; Pori, Finland
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 18, 2008 Light copper, coarse white head. Shepherd Neame like aroma, grassy hops, fruitiness, little nutty and toasty malts. Nutty, fruitcake flavor, grassy hops, little peach and wood in the finish. Almost medium bodied, low carbonation. Quite nice fruity bitter. evilsoc (191), Wales
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 18, 2008 Generic looking amber bitter. There was a strong smell of what I can only put down to chlorine. Its possible its been contaminated with sterilising checmicals at bottling I suppose but I’d expect better quality control from the brewery so I’m not sure. Otherwise, sweet cereal nose. Predominant caramel flavours with a dry floral finish. Fairly nicely balanced but a bit run of the mill. masto (77), Helsinki, Finland
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Clear amber, fluffy lacy head. Malty aroma with a bit of fruit. Earthy-leafy hops of the mild variety, hints of orange. Far too one-dimensional and mild. Buttery medium-full palate, mild carbonation. Nice medium-bitter finish, though. fidelis83 (712), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 9, 2008 Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aroma is playful candy malt a little licorice, grassy hops and an almost white wine like fruitiness. Buiscuity malts up front along apples, a little nuttiness like honey almonds, with some grassy hops and some bitter hops to finish. All flavors were a little weak but added up to be pretty pleasant overall. I havent tasted alot of ESB’s but this seems about average in my experience. Aroma was the best part. Very interesting...
