Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Amber-brown with a lasting white head, lightly nutty and grassy nose, strong and lightly toasty, with hints of lemon, hay and burnt caramel.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, clear orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of skunk, grass, yeast, some bread, touch of spice. Taste was a mix of grass, trash, bread, cracker, skunky notes finishing slightly bitter, prickly.

Mmmmmm malts hops caramel. Nice looker when poured into large hard rock snifter. Not disappointed on ex again by black sheep. CID if novelty I feared the worst but excellent. Fruity..., not citrus but dark fruits.

12 oz bottle into a Belgian snifter. Label indicates this was brewed in Saratoga Springs NY. Clear copper body topped by a decent head. Spots of lacing are left on the glass. Aroma: caramel malts with English hops; the malts dominate. Flavor follows. Semi-dry finish with a medium body and lively, prickly carbonation. O: more of an ESB than a English Pale Ale.

Color is Amber without much head to speak of. Aroma is generic hops, caramel malt, weak fruit hints.

The base is toasted grain and bready like malt. The body is medium leaning on thin. The flavor is toasted grain, light fruit, and again... Generic hop without any real distinction. Not terrible in anyway but not one aspect of this make it notable. Well, the label is pretty cool but... No extra points for that.

mild hoppy nose, small frothy head rapidly diminishing, medium amber hue, moderately sweet taste with malt and hop tones, a good ale

DATE TASTED: April 30, 2015... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: just having used MP as a Medieval Romance review, this made sense tonight--and as the Browns draft, they search yet again for that elusive Holy Grail known as starting quarterback... APPEARANCE: clear, orange amber body with mild effervescence; thin, steady, snow-white head that frames the body attractively; appropriate lacing.. AROMA: nutty, buttery scent with some mellow citrus hints; malts are bready and ...PALATE: smooth, rather uneventful mouthfeel; slightly dry; reasonably weighted... TASTE: a funky, astringent flavor with some nutty suggestions; definite bitterness on the tongue; easy-drinking but indistinguishable in its profile; lemon, pear and some aromatic hops--not impressive...OVERALL: a beer that screams "novelty!" and tastes just as here-and-gone; a brown ale’s throat coat late, and the majority of the experience is watered down--not much like the film for which it is named...
