Commercial Description:
Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

50cl Bottle: Moderately sweet aroma. Smells strangely of banana and caramel malts. Also has aroma of sawdust. Poured amber in color with a medium, rocky, off-white head that lasted throughout. Good lacing. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is moderately sweet but not bitter. Tastes heavily of malts, with some herbs and grass mixed in. Finishes with flavor of coardboard box, and strangely, matzo ball soup. Medium body. Watery texture. Soft carbonation. Malty finish. Overall, not an ESB, and not good.

Tempered over burning witches. 500ml bottle from Centra, Majorstuen in Oslo. Clear, dark amber coloured body. Dense white head quickly reduced to a filmy layer. Caramel malty to the nose. Initial caramel flavour followed by almond, wheat and kiwi fruit with adding bitterness from the hops. Dry ending. The downside is a much too foamy mouthfeel (07.04.2007).

Bottle: Poured dark amber with a slight tan head. This one bubbled like crazy upond pouring. I smelled a bit of a sweet berry smell. Taste was a bit weak. Tasted of berry as well. Was sticky, almost tasted muddy...

Cloudy rich golden with lasting head. Notes of sweet malts (berries) and mild hops. Grainy, mild hops, and notes of fruit in the flavour. Farily smooth with a dry finish.

Bottle - Orange with white head. Notes of fruit, malt, citrus, hops. Same flavors, with bitter finish. Was okay, but not what I expect from a premium bitter/esb.

Aged 3-4 years (not sure, found in parents’ fridge drawer, no date). Bright golden color with a lot of carbonation, thick bubbly white head and little lacing. Strong sweet aroma. Flavor is slightly malty, a little sweet and a bit sour. Tasted a note of fruit, almost cherry-like. Second pour to finish the pint added more cloudiness and became more malty and less sour.

From bottle. Pale orange with thin white head. Nose is caramel malt with sour undertones. Flavor follows and is reminiscent of dirty socks. Yuck.

Bottle. Split with gputty. Nose is sour, with dirty laundry tossing around. Flavor is much the same. No thanks.
