Commercial Description:
Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Being a huge Monty Python fan I had to try it... and I say for being a themed ale and what not it’s pretty tastey... it pours an nice almond color.. and has a fairly sweet flavor... well carbonated with a calm after taste

A great show, and a great name for a not so great beer. Pours from the bottle to a reddish orange with medium off-white head that lingers, and excellent lacing. From there, I must say NEE! Aroma is faint grassy, floral hops. Taste is OK, but no flavor in particular jumps out. Palate is immediately too dry, not bitter enough, and slightly metallic. Nice try, but not there.

Pours a light amber color with a little bit of cloudiness to it. Very interesting aroma of sweet fruit and some metallicy malts. Flavor was kind of weak and watery, some light caramel tones and the hops didnt deliver the bitterness i was expecting.

I found it to be very smooth - not too much hoppiness (which Brit beers seem to be known for). I thought it might be a drain pour based on the hokey name but it turned out to be quite smooth. Lacked some flavor however..

(Bottle) Pours a light amber with a small, but long-lived head. Not as bitter as I expected, and especially not bitter enough to be an ESB. Sweet malty notes with some hops in the aftertaste. Drinkable, clean and refreshing.

Dulled gold pour with a healthy head that really lasts. The nose is buttery with caramel malts, layered with candied fruits beneath. Medium body - carbonation is lively. More bready malts in the body note sweet toffees and butterfinger candy. Sweet and drinkable - I don’t see this as an ESB though. This would definitely do in a pinch.

500ml Bottle: How could I not drink something that’s been tempered over burning witches? They had it coming. Pours copper/yellow with a nice white foam head, very little carbonation. Decent retention but little lacing. Aroma is very, very fruity, apparently from fruity hops as promised by Black Sheep. The flavour is sadly absent, not at all what’s promised in the aroma. It’s quite bland and very watery, with only hints of bitterness on the back of the palate before it’s gone for good.

Please don’t even bother with this one -- Monty Python fan or not. I thought that it tasted like prunes (no fooling), with a horrific aftertaste. If your quest crosses this "ale," take a pass.
