Nicko (187), Ashfield, Australia Aug 8, 2006 Good initial head, tiny bubbles, smells almost a little like vanilla essence. Maple syrup colour. Sweet on the lips and bitter on the tongue. Very smooth. bigcat03 (191), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA Aug 7, 2006 1pt 9oz bottle from Hy-Vee Liquors St. Joseph poured into english pint - Pours red/amber with a 1.5 finger off-white head; Malt, apple, and a general fruitinessto the nose; Hops, bitters, and a bit of fruit on the initial taste; Good bit of carbonation too; A hoppy, yeasty backtaste; A decent beer that I can feel good about buying. Nothing incredibly special, but not bad by any mean. Of course I love the bottle, but who wouldn’t? tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Aug 4, 2006 Draught. Pours hazy orange with soapy white head. The aroma is cidery with some bark and zest. The flavor is apples, a lot of grassy hops, and some strange organic bitterness. The finish is unpleasantly gritty. Good for novelty value, but little else. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2006 Of course I picked up this bottle simply for the novelty factor and I would have expected it to be utter swill if others hadn’t told me that it actually isn’t terrible. They were right, it’s not terrible - it’s not great either, but it isn’t bad. This poured a nice copper colour with a small amount of head. Tasted quite fruity actually, not really that far off from apple juice in many respects. Every sip reminded me of apple juice. The finish had a subtle bitterness to round it out some. Not bad, but not that special either...except for the label and name. CanadaCam (109), Canada Jul 31, 2006 500ml bottle. pours nice with pleasant colouring. A little hint of fruity flavour, which works well. Bit of an aftertaste. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jul 31, 2006 Pours a clear copper bronze with a frothy, lightly-lacing off-white head. Aroma has a mildly sweet maltiness and some grassy, citrusy English hops. Body starts with a semi-full, but dry earthy malty character and bitter Fuggles hoppiness. Overall, bland, over-carbonated, and very average. reygato (12), USA Jul 30, 2006 Poured with a golden color (or was it "colour" ? The head was cream color. taste was somewhat sweet, not overwhelming but noticable. Flavor was not full or rich as aroma would have suggested.
Would probably taste great with baked albatross or spam and baked beans.
I saved the bottle so I could hit myself over the head with it while crooning
The only reason I got this was because I am such a Monty Python fan, as you have figured if you hve read such far. The beer was ok, but I am not fond of premium bitters and will stick with stouts and an occasional naked organist. demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Jul 27, 2006 Pours a reddish/golden color with a nice medium sized foamy white head. Aroma is malts, caramel, nice hop texture, a bit of smoke, and some fruity aroma. Taste is nice and bitter with the roasted caramel malts coming through the most and a nice hop backing, liquid smoke, and a plum note. Palate is not that carbonated, slightly sticky and definitely bitter. Overall, This has a nice full flavor for a ESB. Definitely a good buy.
